Didn't Saban go through the same "under the microscope" inspection his first year? Going 12-0 the next year changed him from satan to saint.
Kiffin is absolutely right in that when an outsider comes in and shakes things up he is going to be looked at ... very closely. However, I do think it would be better if he wouldn't stick it in their faces the way he is doing!
appalachianvol writes:
Truth is, only the KNS and New York times is calling it a SCANDAL! not even the NCAA is calling these accusations a scandal. I resent the term.
VolAlum2003 (Inactive) writes:
In my opinion, the only thing that could actually hurt UT athletics is if the NCAA can show that UT Administration encouraged girls to sleep with recruits or rewarded them if they did so. While I was at UT, I heard rumors of this kind of stuff going on (i.e. hostesses sleeping with recruits, etc.), however the thing I NEVER heard was that the University encouraged such behavior or promoted it. Guess what people...when you put pretty girls and star athletes into a room together something is going to happen. If I was an athlete and the NCAA asked me about my relationship with a pretty girl, I would just repeat the following phrase: "Reggie Bush was paid to play."
As for the allegations by Keith Easterwood...that guy is a joke. In 2005 he enjoyed whispering into the NCAA's ear about Arkansas and nothing came of it. Second time's the charm, I guess.

What scandal?
The one concocted by Mr. Thamel and the NYT?
GerryOP writes:
Absolutely interesting. The "big guys" don't like the FNG messing in their sandbox! Lil' Urbie is probably sitting at home giggling about Kiffin's predicament. Don't forget, Kiffin set lil' Urbie up for a $30k "dent" in his checkbook.
I predict that Kiffin will come out of this smelling like a rose! And next year on the field? AL and FL come to friendly Neyland and Kiffin gets to rub St. Stevies nose in the So Car dirt. Now, if we could just schedule Clemson next year, could add to the pleasure. Paybacks are HELL!

Florida don't like us gettig Florida boys to play for UT. Kiffin is breaking into thier lock on Florida.

Opinions are exactly what the NYT are printing...everyone has opinions and obviously there are certain programs in the south that find reason to stir up accusations to degrade the UT program as they feel threatened...need to clean their house before throwing out reasons they can't out recruit the Kiffin family...gotten way out of hand for sure...If a hand full of co-eds are a threat, then the rest of the college world has major problems....I rest my opinion...go vols...

Is Mr. Thamel a real Mr.? My view is that he is not a real sports writer. The 2009 Tennessee Football team has so many real sports stories, all missed by the New York Times Sports Department. Thamel writes instead about college flirtations. Duh. Tennessee fans might be ok with the NYT's wasted ink about a few of our coeds, because it puts us on the media stage. But we know that gossip is not football, and it is not sport. We know what our players did on the fields this year. What a story!
steamboatticket#484773 writes:
Thamels's articles smell, more like a codswallop.
mercuryvol writes:
I think this whole tempest in a teapot does nothing but unleash Kiffin's ability and desire to start an "evaluation" of other teams recruiting practices and I suspect we'll soon see the results of that like we did when CPF had his fill of the other teams garbage attacks on UT.Do not believe for one second that CPF's testimony occured in a vacuum.Payback for this trash reporting will be meted out if CLK so desires.
RoadTrip writes:
What 9 year old came up with the title to this?! Scandal?!
Tiger Woods comes to mind when I hear that word, not with UT recruiting. We are finally back in the game and the good ole boys in the system hate it.
Keep kicking tail CLK!
mercuryvol writes:
Give it a year and see who's singing the NCAA blues. That will be the clue to the originator of this halfast attempt to 'scandalize' UT.Please believe me, just because CPF isn't here doesn't mean the ability of resources still in place are not able or willing to cause harm to the violators' programs.UA's storied program was one faculty liason's cooperativity from the death penalty the last time this issue was tried.
TommyJack writes:
Remember, Rube. You guys are one phone call away from the death penalty. Bwahahahaha

Oh yeah, and give it a year and the UCLA-like losses will be over as well.Even to the extent that your hollowed headed math skills can comprehend.
RockinTop writes:
Oh, Ok.
The NCAA was kind to Bammer by not calling it what it is. Let me spell it out for you: stealing is stealing even if Bammer chose not to prosecute them for breaking the law by taking what didn't belong to them and "giving them away" (yeah, right)....and violation enough that you are on probation, AGAIN!
Slap someone else, you don't bother me in the least.

Hey, KNS staff - let me give you my opinion of you, instead. The KNS staff is about as bad as the NY Times when it comes to slanting the news by introducing an agenda or template. Where's the "scandal"? To date, nothing of substance has turned up. Another example of the slanted headline -- "Hamilton not aware of violation". Worded under the premise that not only was there a violation, but Hamilton is too stupid or incompetent to even be aware of it. This is Yellow Journalism. I wouldn't even wipe by backside with this kind of gutter trash. And the mainstream media wonders why their revenues are down.
Yellow Journalism (defined): A type of journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists.

I wuz beginning to think that the ncaa had placed a gag rule on KNS -- either that or they had shut down operations for the weekend. Very little in the way of news out of KNS the past several days.
On the other hand, due to the disturbing lack of quality investigative reporting on all of this (mostly cut n paste journalism) that might not be that bad an idea.

I'll give you an opinion; the more I read about this so called scandal I realize the only thing scandalous is the coverage of a non-story.
Laughable just plain laughable.
Hey New York Times you want a story? Derrick Rose went from Chicago to Detroit to take the ACT that got him into Memphis.
The fact that Cal and Memphis even tried that is a story.
Laughable just plain laughable.

Yes, Slive does have it in for Coach Kiffin, and unfortunately, he is in a position to see this thing through to completion. It reminds of a scene from the movie "Robocop". Young exec makes it to management at OCP. Pops his mouth off in the executive restroom to the old executive VP and tries to swell up on the old guy. A little while later, the young exec is in his apartment, and three goons come in, shoot him in the legs, and start a timer on an explosive device, while starting a video of the old VP telling him exactly why he is about to die. Kinda the same thing going on here.
