KNOXVILLE — It may be a compliment that the University of Tennessee's football program made it through Sunday without another recruiting revelation. Nonetheless, the UT Coach Lane Kiffin is receiving a number of "compliments."
Even with no new news, the react to last week's off-field activities at Tennessee continue to go up on the Web.
Here is some of the latest:
Google likes Lane Kiffin | Michael Silence, No Silence Here: First-year UT football coach Lane Kiffin gets almost 23,000 hits on Google Blog Search between Dec. 1, 2008, and Dec. 14, 2009.
Convicts wearing Tennessee Orange | Jay Maguire OnMilwaukee.com: The NCAA might as well put an office in Knoxville, TN. Seems Coach Kiffin doesn't believe he needs to follow the rules. Recently, the Vols are in trouble for providing "hostesses" to go to recruits holding up "come to Tennessee" signs. This is a blatant rules infraction.
Lane Kiffin Is Hilarious II: Tennessee Coach Flattered By Investigations | Bleacher Report: You are right Lane, UT's recruiting class is just so good, nobody can believe it could be legal. So they are just assuming, evidence be damned, that you have to be cheating. I mean nobody's recruiting class could be this good.
Capstone Report Apologies to Tennessee & Lane Kiffin: Gone are the days when you couldn't spell Citrus without UT.
Pic shows UT hostesses with recruits; heat rises on Vols | AJC College Sports Recruiting: Well, this Tennessee story just keeps better and better, doesn't it? I'm not sure how many of you caught the latest updates over the weekend. If not, I'll catch you up this morning.
For Better or Worse, Tennessee Football Is Married to Lane Kiffin | Bleacher Report: Lane Kiffin's stint at Tennessee has been incredibly eventful so far, and whether that's a positive thing is going to differ depending on whom you talk to.
Lane Kiffin, Confusing Concern for Compliments - Andy Hutchins - The Sporting Blog - Sporting News: I wonder if Lane Kiffin actually hears what he is saying, and, if he does, what he thinks of what he says. Certainly, this delight in NCAA attention would be something he might regret, no?

Went to the movies yesterday and saw "Blind Side". I believe that every coach in the movie, including: Fulmer, Nutt, Holtz, Saban, and Orgeron ALL committed recruiting violations. I'm sure the NCAA will conduct another investigation in regards to the recruiting of Michael Oher. Can't wait for those results!
Goliver24 writes:
LOL! Most of those articles aren't even proven yet. Most of them say that TN payed for the trip for the girls and that they had a "come to Tennessee" sign. Has any of that been proven? No one ever denied the fact that they went to the game or that they had a sign. However, the picture that came out proves that the sign didn't say "come to tennessee"....It had nothing to do with Tennessee. Most of these articles are irrelevant.

i wish they would post a article after all is said and done. No they will run and hide! Top recruiting class for years to come lots of wins and championships. Come back later now ya here.

Kiff knows what goes round,, comes round..He is a very intelligent coach who has his eye on the future.. not the past.. all the BS coming up on these web sites and in the papers has no bearing on the face to face meetings he has with recruits.. he and his coaching staff have this situation under control and are drooling over all this FREE publicity.. BANK IT!!!!! FEAR THE KIFF!!!!!!!!!!

I have not been posting on here long but it seems to me that the KNS reporters are not very bright. At all...

Why is this such a story when LSU just fired an assitant for paying cash to a recruit? "Sex sells" trumps "real jounalism" everytime.

CLK just needs to shut his trap and coach the Vols to a bowl victory. I'm all for attention for the program, but this has crept into the negative category. Go Vols!

I'm not sure I'd reference the bleacher report. Yes, it is out there but I've never read a thing on the site that wasn't against the Vols. On the other hand, it's always good to know your enemies.

Is GVX/KNS an ENEMY of UT football? I ask this because they continue to post more and more toxic waste (controversy) on this website day after day.
What's the waste? Examples are in this article...The Bleacher Report and Capstone legitimate opinions? LAUGHABLE!!! What I once thought was just lazy journalism by KNS is perhaps hit journalism as a shadow effort.
Where are the REAL recruiting stories? I thought this sight was about "Go Vols." I thought this sight was about getting the "Xtra" on "Go Vols." Most of the time the "Xtra" is a controversy story. The only "Xtra" here on recruiting is just trash reporting. There are Michael Oher stories (Blindside movie rave) on every team and in every recruiting season. Why doesn't KNS cover even one of those stories?
BTW, KNS followed the same pattern in the firing of Fulmer, etc.
I am starting to think that KNS' real goal is taking or holding down UT football.
IS IT TIME FOR AN ENTERPRISING NEW WEBSITE ON UT FOOTBALL FROM OTHER THAN KNS?

All I learned from these blogs is that there are a lot of homers from other programs who embarrassingly biased blogs. The "capstone report apologies" story was particularly biased and vulgar, as were several posts following it.
The AJC story was so biased that I had a hard time believing it was connected to a legitimate newspaper. At one point the writer notes that the SI.com photographer who took the UT's hostesses "recalled seeing some oddly over-dressed girls on the field after the game". Oddly overdressed? In what reality? Is this guy suddenly an expert on women's fashion? The hostesses were dressed tastefully and, contrary to ignorant opinions, were reported to have watched the game, talked to and had pictures taken with the players and then departed.
There have been no reports that the ladies lingered any longer or engaged in any kind of sleazy behavior. The insinuations that they did are being dreamed up by ignorant fans of other programs, although I am ashamed to say I have seen a couple of posts by persons claiming to be Vol fans that also inferred the same thing.
If you are a true Volunteer, please support the Big Orange all the way and don't stop at our football team.

Where is actual journalism in any of this? All this is sensationalist phooey. Hating on Tennessee. The NCAA hasn't even given Tennessee a formal letter of investigation, that means - wait for it - they aren't formally investigating Tennessee. They haven't found a reason to formally investigate, which means there is nothing seriously wrong - in spite of how much these "journalists" wish

I agree with you. Isn't it amazing how guys in the press are so lazy that they don't bother to dig for facts. They just read what someone else has written, accept it as gospel and then run with it. If the hack from Wisconsin had even bothered to look on the KNS website he would have seen no "come to Tenn." sign and realized his article was nonsense.
AFVol423 writes:
I think what everyone is saying is clear. The majority of what is out there right now is speculation. If you need to file a story, you just link to the speculation blogs, file the report and pick up your pay check.
I'd like to see someone get a reference like the lead investigator for the NCAA/SEC and what they say about it. Obviously the Florida fans on Bleacher Report will say this is clearly a violation. Thanks for listing all the spots currently taking up bandwidth with speculation but don't you have another segment in the paper that does that? I think it's called "The List"

Sure everyone is against us and all of this is manufactured by people who have nothing to do but hate on Tennessee. I mean we are an elite program that has won several SEC and National championships. We are on top and going to go even higher so everyone is jealous and against us. No point in being concerned about the repeated bad press and accusations and the growing pile of minor violations. Come on folks, no one wants UT to be great more than I do but there comes a point where we have to admit that someone needs to sweep out some of the garbage and admit we messed up and then move on. Pretending we have no problems is as silly as all the folks that posted that John Gruden was going to be our next coach because someone saw him somewhere within 500 miles of Knoxville. Dont get your panties in a wad at what I have said and dont question my loyalty to UT. I've been with them a long long time including the 0-6 start under Majors. Part of the way to overcome a problem is to admit it and deal with it. Yes some of the stuff is just allegations but some of it has been very real. Fix the problems, walk softly and carry a big stick and most of the critics will go away. Pretend you are above everyone else and prepare to get knocked off your imaginary pedastal

Each of the articles I read referenced the NYT article. Thats when I stopped reading. Anyone who references the NYT has lost all credibility they ever imagined they might have. Where is the reference to the interview with one of the SC players father who said the hostesses who attended the game were dressed like ladies and conducted themselves like ladies and that they didn't do anything wrong. What about the fact that 1-2 of these recruits had already committed to UT before the hostesses attended the game. To reference these articles is pathetic even by KNS standards. I agree with the poster who asks where are the articles about UT's current recruiting efforts? I mean the dead period doesn't start until this weekend right? The media efforts to try and convict Kiffin in the court of public opinion has become the norm of what I expect from todays "reporters." It seems that many of these reporters have a bright future in fictional writing as a great percentage of their ranting/writing have little foundation in truth. Where is the ncaa's official letter of inquiry? I'm sure it will not come until just a few weeks before signing day if at all. Until the official letter comes, this is all a nonissue and an excuse for KNS to avoid having to actually do some real research and write some original material. Go Vols!!!

Funny how he avoided "what's coming to him" in Tuscaloosa and gainesville. He avoided it with an inhereted 5-7 team with no quality depth. Imagine what he'll do with a team of quality depth. That's when he'll get what's coming to him, and he'll get it at the expense of your team, among others.

Interloping fans of rival schools on this board, like you, don't give a tinker's damn about UT. Stop pretending that your motive is to help UT. Your motive is to do as much damage to the football program and Lane Kiffin as you can. And the reason for that is that Lane Kiffin is a very effective coach and will soon be beating your team.

Walking around with that type of arrogance would destroy any recruiting program… regardless of your ‘brand’. A brand name will only take you so far. If you don’t constantly put in an effort and find new ways to market yourself/product, your program will die an early death.

Talk about it in The General's Quarters
Tennessee assistant coach Ed Orgeron has always been known as relentless on the recruiting trail, and Orgeron is living up to that reputation when it comes to former Vol commitment Bruce Irvin. The Mt. San Antonio Community College linebacker is now committed to Arizona State, but he will see the Vols before he ends his recruitment.
"I am coming to Tennessee this weekend for a visit," Irvin said. "I am still committed to Arizona State, but I am not going to sign with anyone on Wednesday (which is when the Junior College signing period opens)."
When asked why he decided to visit the Vols, Irvin said that it was because of Orgeron.
"What can I say? Coach O is coach O," Irvin said. "He works on you in mysterious ways. And because of him, I am going to come back up there this weekend."
Irvin, who visited Tennessee unofficially earlier in the year, said he will be focusing on two things when he comes to Knoxville this weekend.
"I want to look at the depth chart closely," Irvin said. "I will certainly compete for a job, but I don't want to go to a place where there is a logjam at the position and secondly, I want to see how the coaches treat their players on the practice field and what the players say about playing for them."
The 6-foot-3-inch, 235-pound linebacker is originally from Georgia and his family will be a bit of a factor in his decision. Irvin said his brother is intends to go to graduate school at the school with which Irvin signs.
"He's planning on going to school with me," Irvin said. "He's in Georgia right now, and he likes the thought of being close to home."
Irvin decommitted from the Vols earlier this fall after he said the Tennessee staff didn't show him enough love. But for the last couple of months, Irvin said the Vols have been recruiting him very hard after he and coach Orgeron "got straight" with some things.
For the first time since August, Irvin is going to relax this week. His season is over after a 7-6 win on Saturday that gave Mt. San Antonio the California junior college state title.
"It feels good to win a championship," Irvin said. "It also feels good that it's over with because my body is really banged up."
Irvin said that he hopes to make a decision on his college choice soon after he leaves his visit to Knoxville.
