Tight end Mason says he will sign with Ole Miss

Tight end Zaccheus Mason will sign with Ole Miss, the standout from Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville told the News Sentinel via text message Sunday.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder had been considering Tennessee, having taken an official visit to Knoxville on Jan. 16. Mason visited Ole Miss on Jan. 23.

“I enjoyed Ole Miss a lot more,” Mason said.

Mason was a late addition onto the football recruiting scene. Also a basketball standout, Mason fielded several scholarship offers from smaller schools to play basketball.

Following standout seasons on the football field as a junior and senior, Mason decided to pursue football instead of basketball.

WTF, how are we losing recruits to OLE PISS? I guess we can chalk it up to recruits not having "relationships" with the coaches.

Does anyone notice that we keep losing offensive guys but are not losing the defensive ones. (except DT, but we did not contact him for over a month.) We are gaining defensive recruits. This makes me think that even though we have had a coaching change, recruits are still reminded of last years offensive performances. Oh Well, I guess we will see how well our new coaches can coach.

GO VOLS!!

Nice...

Did you catch the basketball game last night on ESPN? Nice non-conference scheduling by Billy Ball. Almost as tough as Oscar Meyer (Hawaii, The Cidadel, etc.), don't you think?

Remember, it's all in fun...

We had considerable interest in all these guys who, for whatever reasons, are choosing other schools. I felt we would get 2 or 3 out of the group visiting this weekend. My feelings haven't changed. It's tough to sell a recruit in 2 1/2 weeks when others have had 1-2 years. Let's focus more on who chooses to play for UT rather than those who don't. The University of Tennessee banner still flies high, and will continue to do so if we are a top 25 class or top 10 class. Patience is a sign of maturity; instant gratification is not.

So can someone with a rivals or scout membership give us an update on some of the other guys? Orson Charles, Terrance Coleman, Kendall Kelly, DeQuinta Jones, Marlon Brown?

You should have watched it all...

Speaking of UF's "sked", is the Miami series back on every year now? Meyer's branching out, I see. Guess he's going to renew acquantences with the Canes for his big move in a few years to Notre Dame. Got to get the old rivalries back...

Bye...

What makes you all think that Knoxville is so great? Why dont some of you come to Oxford and check it out before you shoot your mouths off. I have been to Knoxville and the University of Tennessee and hell I was more impressed with Slippery Rock University. Your facilities are old and smelly and your fans are classics. Was at the Tennessee/LSU game in 2006 when LSU beat you and heard the fans cursing the Tennessee players when they came off the field. That was it for me! This USC bunch you have in charge up there will fail because any kid that even thinks about going there needs to call some of the Ole Miss kids and ask them how much of a arsehole Ed Orgeron is. Cant wait to get some of those transfers after they get a taste of that crew. Hey folks, Ed only had one good year recruiting for Ole Miss and he was exposed after that so this year may be your last shot. Better get the best this year!!

Tight end is not a serious need, offensive line and wide receiver are serious needs. If we get Marcus Hall, described as "6'5", 290 lbs and very muscular" and ranked as the #6 OT, to go along with 4* OT Schofield, both of whom are rated much higher than the defecting Phillips, and get Marlon Brown while hanging onto Je'Ron Stokes at wide receiver, it will be a pretty successful recruiting class. Especially with the db's we have committed.

That has to be the most lame arse excuse I have ever seen for taking a beatdown. If this is the case then you guys should be favored by about 14 next year in Football so you are not allowed to shoot off your mouth if you win cuz "thats what you were suppose to do" Lmao.. Pathetic you are...

There are actually four reasons other than academics that Mason isn't coming here. They are:

Warren
Cottam
Stocker
Douglass

I agree. Why waste your time worrying about what a Gator or Bama fan thinks. Of course they are going to be biased towards their team, just like we are. We'll get our share of the players that we want and lose some that we want. It happens to everyone, even Gators and Bammers.

We really need a young black assistant coach these young black kids can identify with, like Trooper Taylor or Rodney Gardner. Looks like we have some great recruiters and coaching talent but we fall short on the relationships side. Not a racial issue, just common sense and part of the culture that we have to work with. I don't blame the kids for passing up a chance to be on a future national championship team (UT) and going somewhere they feel comfortable.

This is the problem when we focus on recruits we have no shot at getting. Not only this kid, but several others. We did manage to get a visit but it was too late. That is why I don't understand Kiffin telling kids that want to come to UT that they don't fit the system. I'm hopeful for next season that we can get some of these kids to sign. Getting them to campus this late in the game is strong. Shows with a whole year what this staff might be able to do. That is, if most are still here after 2 years.
