MEMPHIS - A day after telling a radio station that University of Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron botched his recruitment, Harding Academy receiver and Georgia signee Marlon Brown said he had a “disagreement” with Orgeron — and dropped it at that.
“Me and him had a disagreement on a subject. That was it,” said Brown, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound Parade All-American who signed Wednesday with Georgia over Tennessee, Ole Miss and Ohio State.
Moments after his signing, Brown told KQPN-AM that “Coach O came at me the wrong way. He had said a couple things to me and my family, and it wasn’t happening.”
Brown went on to say in the interview that his grandmother, who was heavily involved in his recruitment, “was definitely turned off by it.”
Orgeron, in Memphis Thursday night for a celebration of the UT recruiting class, said of Brown, “We like him. We respect him. We wish him the best.”
UT coach Lane Kiffin, also attending the Big Orange Caravan event at the Memphis Hilton, supported Orgeron and noted two signees the Vols wouldn’t have secured without him.
“I’m not one bit worried with what’s going on with Ed and how he’s recruiting,” Kiffin said.
While Brown wouldn’t go into specifics Thursday about the disagreement with Orgeron, he did dispel one message board rumor that suggested Orgeron had perhaps used inappropriate language around Brown and his family while recruiting him.
“Nah. No cuss words or nothing,” Brown said. “A simple disagreement. That was it.”
Even so, Harding Academy athletic director Kevin Starks, Brown’s basketball coach, said Brown struggled with his decision.
“I think Tennessee was in the running; serious running,” Starks said. “Not because it was his hometown state. It’s just the weekend we went, it was great, the visit we had, and they did have a chance.
“But the bottom line is Marlon didn’t go to Tennessee because there was a disagreement, and that’s what happened. That wasn’t a lie.
“That wasn’t him trying to talk bad about their program or about their recruitment. That’s just what happened.”

Who cares, if you are that worked up over it and YOU'RE going to get on an article that has nothing to do with this you got problems man. I hope UT beats you this year so I don't have to see your dumba $$ name on here anymore. Go back to the swamp you came from. Your pathetic

While I agree that Kiffin's remarks were out of line today, I disagree with you on damaging Meyer's reputation. He does enough of that on his own. Everyone knows Urban doesn't have a good rep. for recruiting or for manners.

I am very excited about Coach Kiffin and I actually like his brashness. However, he should not be publicly accusing a coach of cheating...if he doesn't even know the rule. I don't care if he did do this publicity...making a jack.$$ of himself is not the publicity we want or need.
I am very excited about the class and I like that he has b.lls....but let's not go into the gutter. Accusing someone of cheating is not something to take lightly and I hope young Lane learned his lesson, because I think he has a bright future at UT.
Now, I hope he turns his attention to getting us ready on the field.

I am sorry that we hurt poor ol little FL fans fealings. I know you all are scared. It is OK! I am sure there will be plenty of help groups starting up for your kind all over FL in the next year.

Just to be accurate, it was Saint Steve which made the Citrus comment, not Urban.
With that said, if Urban breaks the rules there are ways to report it. I like that Kiff wants to get under his skin, but do it the right way.

NOT TO MENTION...pretty classless calling a kid non stop while he's on an OFFICIAL VISIT AT ANOTHER SCHOOL. Way to honor the kid's right to make his own decision...

I'll translate the story for you..
BROWN- " I do what I want to do when I want to do it"...
Orgeron- " You will have to come to practice, play by the rules, go to class, and represent yourself well at the University.
Brown- " Ha! I 'll just go somewhere else then"

He b!tch im getting sick and tired of all you SOB crying about what Kiffin said bout Urban F-en Meyer. Think this through, did ever realize when he said this he was in the State of Tennessee. At a Vols recruiting convention center for UT. He did not say it in front of national media, nor did he say on TV. Also, its not like he was in Florida doing it in their own backyard NO he didn't. Kiffin simply said it in front of a 1000 crowd UT event in KNOXVILLE,TENNESSEE not Florida.
So all cry babys need to get the fukc over it!!! Its our state and will what we damn will please!!!

Well, Urban showed a lack of class by running the score up on our team - so I'd call it about even.
Kiffin's the same age as me, and I still catch myself speaking before I think occasionally. It happens to all of us. Let's move on. It's no big deal.

I'll tell you what I told the UN-EDUCATED BAMA FAN. You probably couldn't name 5 players on Florida's team if you were in front of me right now. Say what you want about Kiffin. Meyer has been known to make some pretty harsh comments about us in the past along with Spurrier and a few others. What makes u more upset? Knowing that we are about to take over you again or when Tebow leaves your back to square 1? Tell me GATORZZ because you don't make any sense on this website. Florida is not a dynasty-Tennessee is. Florida only goes back to 95. We go back to 1945! THAT'S A DYNASTY. Study your history my un-educated friend

I am almost glad that MB isn't comming to UT. I mean, yes he could make some plays for us this year but you have to look at the talent level he was playing against. 1A seriously? Didn't C. Donald have a issue adjusting and he was from 2A. I know Donald is turning into a stud now. I digress.
I have confidence in the WR that we have on our roster. CPF was too caught up in playing upperclass players vs more talented player. We have G Jones=playmaker, Denarius Moore is a playmaker but couldn't get on the field b/c of CPF. A Paige who we all desperately wanted 2 yrs ago but has not even seen the field in his career. He is a player. The other WR's, I'm not so sure about.
We did sign some talented player's at that position. I think we will be alright without him. we can always pick up a stud WR next year once they see the opportunity.
I love the potential of this new coaching staff. They have totally revived a sleeping program, or at least in the national media.

Wow. I really can't believe the Florida crowd is so worked up over this. Kiffin throws some red meat to the Vol nation, undoubtedly and deliberately below the belt, and what does eminently successful, multi-trophied U of F do? Brush it off? Scoff?
Noooooooo. They bite. Hook. Line. Sinker.
Congrats, swampfolk. You just got dragged through the mud by a 5-7 team with the 9th best recruiting class in the SEC.
Scared much?

I would have to check the facts, but my guess would be that we have more NCs in women's basketball than FL has in all sports combined. I am sure it would be close.
1manningfan writes:
Also, this is good for this rival and for the SEC. Don't sit hear and act like your all upset, you know your lovin every bit of it. Because if you didn't you wouldn't be on our website talking about it all night long. I love it every minute of it and are glad we ruffled everyones feathers. Example: Girls truly don't like nice guys, they like guys that our in control and that are @$$wholes. Same thing with the media they like teams that got flare, excitment, new, fearless, gutsy, and the new hotness. Alabama is getting back and Tennessee is in their rear view mirror.
Win while you can Gators because these cycles are ugly. We at UT just had our bad years and it just stopped this past season. So use Tebow up for one more good year because after this following season your days are numbred.
Sincerly, Go FUKC URSELFES GATORS!!!
GO VOLS!!!
SFOrange writes:
Do you see a pattern here?
First Kiffin spouts off un-edited on Myers call to a "on campus" recruit and now Orgeron pissing off a big time recruit. This is what you get when the dog ($$$$/winning at all costs) wags the tail (UT)...buckle up cause this is what we've got. Young, hot shots pitching a NFL breeding groud that they have little respect for. All of us want UT to win and win big, but I think it'll take some real coaching and consitent winning to dig this kind of spin on our program. Go Vols.

A disagreement??? Are you serious??? What was it??? Georgia wanted to pay him and we didn't?
utbaby#215635 writes:
Hopefully CLK will see this for what it is. Recruiting in Memphis will not be easy. Just owning the state of TN won't be easy. The other truth is that recruiting in Georgia, Alabama and Louisianna ain't what it was in the 90's. Saben, Richt and Miles will get most of what they want in state. Fulmer found this out the hard way like Kiffen will find out. I'm holding out hope that they'll be good recruiters, but I'm not convinced they have all the recruiters they'll need. They still need a Rodney Garner/Trooper Taylor type of recruiter to succeed in the South. Monte should be good for one or two seasons then players will question if he'll be around for 4 years. CLK should go to the northeast and west coast for more players.

Kiffin did cross a line he should not have. He did brush it off to trying to raze the party but just looks plain dumb because he was wrong. I'm still behind him 100% but let his play on the field do the talking for him. Florida has won 2 national championships in 3 years I don't think Urban Meyer would stoop to try to cheat to get a player. Heck they already had the #2 receiver locked up anyway. When your on top people take pot shots at you. Remember Utah beat the phooey out of Alabama with zero 5 star athletes on the team. Its not all recruiting, although still very important.
volinlouisiana writes:
Please. Kiffin should have known the rules before speaking, but I hardly think he was being dishonest. Besides, what Myers did, calling a recruit while he was trying to enjoy a weekend at UT was desperate and classless: used car salemanish-no offense to used car salesmen. So you should get off your high horse, because Myers also lives in a glass house.
chefvols writes:
I think we can get 8 wins this year. there is really no telling. 2010 is going to be awesome. that recruiting class is already good. I believe we signed the first player for 10'. I like Kiffin's enthusiasm. You cant argue Fulmer's record at UT (1 national championship), but we need that young , fired up attitude. The UT/Florida game has lost a lot of luster, but Kiffin already has a lot of it back.
