No, Tennesssee was 5th in the SEC in terms of Star Power but overall because the lack of numbers they fell below them... I prefer the star power mesurement myself. The next phase is going to find out if these folks can coach. I think 7-5 is going to be required. Anything else then the AD needs to start looking.

I disagree with our schedule and returning players anything less than 9-3 is a failure even for this season! Even with bounce passes our record last year should have been 8-4! Thats with bounce passes and giving the other teams points left and right! I think this year with the added discipline the teams production will go up significantly!

With all due respect, this is an ordinary recruiting class, mid-way in the SEC, and several of the recruits are obviously committments made prior to the new coaching staff.

The tackle from Sarasota Booker was a hoss as a junior (I saw him play), but sat out his senior year and is a rehab project at best. If he ever plays a down, I'll be surprised. Although he did have the best knee surgeon in the country.

My prediction for 2009 is 4-8, and I'm going to have to listen to those Gator fans gloat again this year, I'm afraid.

And man, do I hope I'm proven wrong.

Hey guys I have a better idea. Why don't we watch the games next season and see what happens. If they go 6-6 or 7-5, but they play their butts off and show vast improvement, then that means we're moving forward from what we had. Don't try to put a record for success out there, because we play in the hardest conference in the land. If you look at the schedule for next year, there are five games that we should win for sure, including Vandy and at Kentucky. The other seven could go either way... At Florida, at Alabama, at Ole Miss, vs UCLA, vs Auburn, vs Georgia, and vs South Carolina. I look for vast improvement on the field as far as effort and discipline, but I will not put expectations too high for next season. If we do get the improvement on the field and a top 15 recruiting class in 2010, then in my opinion, it has been a success so far.

I an not sure what an "OUTLIERS" is but KY & Vandy are not really UT competion and LSU will be in 2010 & 11.

Well, I think that 7-5 might start the clock running, but 9-3 is setting the bar pretty high, IMHO. Wins over UF and Bama are the longest of long shots; wins over UGA and Ole Miss are toss-ups. Allow for one "oopsie" along the way due to new coaches, systems, players in new positions, and the ever-popular "Murphy", and 8-4 looks pretty good to me, especially if we avoid any major blow-outs.

Well, I just chided Docrock for being too optimistic, but now I have to chastise you for being too pessimistic. The Gators may indeed have reason to gloat over us for another year at least, but there are WAY more than four eminently winnable games on our schedule. I would be willing to wager a beer or a coffee on 8-4 or better with a few breaks.

Some fans are very optimistic about the new staff and looking forward to the 2009 season. Some have even stated that anything less than nine wins would be a failure and less than ten would be a disappointment. Has everyone forgot how poor Fulmer recruiting classes were in February 06 and 08? If this years recruiting is not in the top five, the talent level available next fall will be the slimmest in years. Particularly at QB.
A SEC championship before 2013 will be a stretch. In 2009, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Ole Miss will definitely be favored and South Carolina will probably be a toss up. In 2010 & 2011 the task gets tougher as LSU cycles onto the schedule.

I read an article somewhere that said even the recruiting services themselves don't claim more than 60% accuracy for their ratings based on how the players actually do on the field. Bottom line is that recruiting is FAR less than an exact science--way too many unquantifiable factors--and coaching plays a HUGE role, no surprise there. I like the fact that our staff has a clear idea of what kinds of players they want and do not appear to be unduly influenced by what others think. Whether or not they are RIGHT about their evaluations is a question that only time can answer.

In the statistics field, an "outlier" is a data point that lies outside the range of the majority of cases. In this case, LSU is considered by many to have landed an exceptionally good class while UK and Vandy had exceptionally bad classes. I'm not sure how true that really is, but that is what was meant by the statement.

Now that right there is funny, I don't care who you are! Personally, I love to hear Orgeron talk, but I can understand how some might seriously misinterpret what he actually says!

OK for all that think I am wrong I will explain 9-3. I will give the coaching staff losses to AL, Ole Miss, and FL. GA is breaking in a new QB and RB. Plus several new lineman. Sorry they should not beat TN. Oh yea and its a home game! UCLA, traveling to Knoxville and still not a good team. SC another home game and they have yet to get any productive QB play. And the other games I wont even address because they should be gimmes in any year!

From Joe Dirt when he goes back to his old home in Louisiana. Same actor and similar character though.

I an not sure what an "OUTLIERS" is but KY & Vandy are not really UT competion and LSU will be in 2010 & 11.

Just saying when you take away the best and the worst recruiting classes from the SEC (LSU, KY, Vandy)everyone else got about the same talent this year

Whether or not they are RIGHT about their evaluations is a question that only time can answer.

exactly...my first instinct was to pissed at the new staff for letting kids go and not closing on a few others but i think they are looking for a different type of player than what foolmer was looking for regardless of the talent level. i think they are looking for players that want to win and succeed and will walk through he11 to get there. fulmer was looking for something different. this has apparently created a divide b/w the current players who don't fit the kiffin mold and the players that do fit the mold. the players that don't fit kiffin's mold are the ones complaining about the 5am weekday workouts. the others know it will make them stronger in the long run

sorry for the long post

Top-heavy on defense? I'm sure the presence of Monte Kiffin had NOTHING to do with that. Just coincidence. BTW, all you negative nellies and downward spiralers need to find a new team to support. LOFL. (remember that one, Fulmerites??) Hmmm?

It's just plain stupid for anybody to get all excited about this nonsense and start ranking and rating classes, players, etc. Why don't we wait until they (a) actually get in school, (b) actually break into the line-up, and (c) actually play for about 2-3 years! THEN we can talk about it with some actual knowledge!
