Win No. 600 for Karen Weekly

Tennessee opened the 2009 softball season with a 10-0 victory over Northern Colorado to give Lady Vols co-head coach Karen Weekly her 600th career victory. The game was halted after five innings in the opener of the BYU Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.

Cat Hosfield (1-0) had a successful debut as the freshman allowed four hits and struck out seven with no walks in a complete-game effort.

Tiffany Huff was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Kelly Grieve finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI and Lillian Hammond had a pair of hits including a ground-rule double.

Freshman designated hitter Dee Dee Fryer mashed her first career home run, hitting a ball that traveled so far it short-hopped into a 300-foot fence beyond the playing field in center.

The Lady Vols play Utah State and No. 15 Washington today.
