Orange Tigers? Memphis considered FedEx colors

MEMPHIS - Color the University of Memphis Tigers . . . orange and purple?

Well, no. Memphis considered - but has decided against - playing a game in FedEx-inspired orange and purple jerseys.

"It was just a fun little thing (to consider) and we're not going to do it," athletic director R.C. Johnson said Friday.

The jerseys were under consideration as an appreciation of FedEx - a major supporter of the athletic program - during the Tigers' game Wednesday against SMU at, um, FedExForum.

Johnson acknowledged the idea had drawn some criticism.

"I don't know if it was the orange or something else, but, yes, there was criticism," he said. "It's not that big of a deal ... If people are uptight about it, we just won't do it. We're just going to get on with life."

Coach John Calipari said he was disappointed the Tigers wouldn't make the ground-breaking fashion statement but said he understood the reasoning behind the decision.

"I thought it was one of the great appreciation moves I've ever seen," Calipari said. "It's not what they do for us as a basketball program. It's what they do for us as a city."

He said the jerseys would be auctioned off during the team's basketball banquet March 8 at The Peabody.

One CUSA team ranked in the TOP TEN and how many SEC teams in the top 25 ?? Last time I checked it was NADA !!! ZIPPPPO !!! NONE !!!! You Hillbilly High fans have way too much time on your hands !! And YES !!! The Memphis fans were outraged at the thought of wearing that NASTY orange color !

Did you think that one up all by yourself ?? That was so whitty !!! Are you a Hillbilly High graduate yourself ? Geez.. How many VOLS have been on drugs or in jail ?? Didn't two VOL basketball players get thrown in jail last year for drugs?? Britton Colquitt punted drunk for four years and almost kiiled someone and stayed on the team.. Is Tony Robinson out of jail yet ?? Travis Henry has been suspended by the NFL (4) times for drugs !! Jamal Lewis is jailed for 6 months for using his cell phone to make drug deals.. Do they teach a glass in thugism/drug dealing at Hillbilly High ?? Sounds like they do !!! Look at your self before throwing stones hillbilly !

If you actually put players in the NFL on a regular basis, there would be more former Memphis players in trouble. When you put as many in the NFL as we do, there are bound to be some off the field issues. It's sheer statistics.

Argue about basketball all you want, but I'd leave fb out of it if I were you.

Britton Colquitt, a punter on the University of Tennessee football team, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident early this morning.
According to the Knox County Judicial Commissioner's Office, Colquitt, 22, hit a parked Ford Focus on Jackson Avenue near Humes Street at 2:56 a.m. today while driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, then fled the scene.

The Knoxville Police Department stopped Colquitt on Gill Avenue near Gratz Street. He admitted to having two beers, three mixed drinks, hitting the car and a tree stump, according to police records.

This is not the first alcohol-related problem for Colquitt; he had three alcohol-related arrests in 2004.

Rage. Vexation. Exasperation.

Disappointment. Embarrassment. Aggravation.

It has nothing to do with being in the PROS !!!UT has alot better quality football player Than Memphis could ever dream of !! But it does seem the drug/alcohol/thugism runs rampant in orange country. You would think that someone arrested 5 times would have been kicked off the team. He was the right color, had the right name, and he was an all world punter !!! Nice priorities at Hillbilly High !!!!

After a 30-day suspension, Duke Crews has been reinstated at Tennessee. This resoldifies the Vols’ role atop the SEC, but proves Pearl is not a strict enforcer of the rules. If a kid is caught with illegal drugs on campus, expulsion should be considered - much less missing at least part of the basketball season. Crews now avoids missing a single game despite his impossibly unintelligent decision-making.

steelers6rings writes:

Tony Passley, Jordan Smith (both with Crack Cocaine)..Jemere Hendrix (drugs)...Duke Crews was reinstated after he was found to have drugs on campus.. Later into more and more drug trouble.. Major Wingate.. drugs... and on and on... Maybe UT should open up its own Alcoholics Anonymous and Drug Rehab facility on campus.. Oh wait they have.. Its called living in the dorm and still practicing and playing on the team..
