They are asking the wrong question here. I am not sure how much confidence I have in Lane Kiffin, but I have a great deal of confidence in the coaching staff.

One of the rules for being a good leader is to hire people better than yourself and I think Kiffin has hired some of the best in all of football, which will help make him look good.

B, C,and E. All those fit the way I've felt since Kiffin's hiring. I'm leaning more toward B right now, so I do have hope.

Ironcity writes:

Its amazing that KNS can continue to find things to write about Kiffin. Its clear their audience is starving for more on him. I like it but it would be better if their weren't so many gator fans on this site. I look at the Gainesville Sun and I can understand why they come here. Thats a lousy paper. It makes KNS look like a world class paper.

202 (almost 201) -- Fear The Kiffin...

Southpaw_Vol writes:

The KNS is nothing more than a tabloid. We have the only morons who look to write nothing but negative ads regarding the football program. They are starving to break a story so bad that they are reporting secondary violations as if the NCAA will waltz in Knoxville tomorrow and slap the death penalty on the Vols (which would probably make John Adams day). And having Chris Low reporting on ESPN.com everytime Kiffin sneezes doesn't help any either.

There are a couple of things that are certain. One, Kiffin is getting the Vols lots of publicity (secondary violations aren't negative pub, contrary to what you think...every school gets those slaps on the wrist). And two, if Kiffin comes out of the gates and knocks off a couple of these "big time" SEC teams, he's going to make a lot of people look like complete morons (as if any of them needed any help; KNS, Slimebaum, Higgins, etc).

I can't wait for him to serve crow. What Kiffin & Co have done in 1 month, Fulmer & Staff only acheived 1 time in 15 years...bringing Big Orange Nation together.

VolinUtah writes:

I am 100% confident that KNS will have another series of meaningless polls because they are incapable of providing any real news regard our football program.

What about some news regarding the nation's #1 prospect visit this past weekend?????????????

It is not a Secodary Violation for KNS to mention his name is it?

What do polls, grading players and Paul Find-A-Bomb have in common? Writers that like stirring --it up simply to increase readership, listeners and/or hits on a site and they don't want to take the time to write articles that involve things like research, interviews and TIME. Has KNS ever had a poll asking what we thought about how they were doing?

leedsvol2007 writes:

The underlying reason we are getting so much negative publicity at least in Birmingham is we have the fans here somewhat concerned.

Saban and his staff clearly out coached us in 2007 and last year was the first time in years due to our offensive problems we really did not match up against them. I think their fans know if we match them talent wise we will not be out-coached and it has them concerned.

Obviously with the staff Kiffin has assembled the odds of us being out-coached again are very small.

Kiffin has shown he can recruit and with the quality of the staff that has been assembled its just a matter of time until we have the resources to match-up at least on even terms with most of our major opponents.

I think other fans know this and that is why some of the reaction to his rhetoric has been overblown by fans and media in our opponents markets.

I would say he is off to a good start.

GoVols!

HotlantaVol writes:

I'd feel a lot better if either:
a. he learned the recruiting rules a little better OR
b. UT's compliance office would get some clarification on whether some of these recruiting tactics apparently used by CLK and CEO at other schools really are violations before reporting them.

Once again, KNS has nothing to write about in the off-season. He's the new guy, let's trash him before the season starts...heck, before spring practice! And, it's even better if we can manage to drag Fulmer's name into it (which happened).

Except for stepping on his tongue a couple of times, so far he has no loses. I like it. He'll probably be the best coach in UT history...or the worst...or average..or?????
Ridiculous.

The newspaper did not report any secondary violations.Tennessee reported these violations themselves.KNS only did what they are supposed to do, that is, report the news even tho it was not to your likeing .Grow up and quit blameing the news for something Kiffin and staff did.You sound like a person that would blame everything you do wrong on someone else. Tennessee is responsible for their wrong doings just as you and I must be responsible for ours.

It's one thing to bring the fire back to UT; it's another to do it by showing you are clueless. As I've stated before, let's save the rah-rah attitude for when we beat someone. And I wanted kiffin from the beginning when a lot of you were wanting brian kelly, mike leach, butch davis, etc... Everyone talks about how he's getting ppl motivated and "fired up". Well, you know what, the name "Tennessee" alone should do that. I'd rather him come in saying "we're gonna do all that we can to beat UF and Bama, etc...instead, we've got a young Spurrier running his mouth when he hasn't coached a game, let alone won one.

No....no....no....no....no!!!

As pertaining to the Gruden comment: I want you to do me a favor. Stick your tongue out as far as it will go, and then bite down on it as hard as you possible can. Jon Gruden is a cancer who, in his opinion, is an "offensive genius". The only part he got right is the offensive part.

If you want Philip Fulmer, version 2.0, (2-yard passes on 3rd and 7, low-scoring offenses, run of the mill performance out of the team)go ahead and keep up the hire Gruden talk. I'm more than happy to give Coach Kiffin his shot.

iowavol writes:

No doubt that a very high percentage of us would like to say we are 100% confident. But there is reality. We love the energy and even stirring the pot. We should be a little concerned over non-factual statements since he has a purported past of not telling the truth. Reality is he has never been a HC at the collegiate level, he had second chair in the OC role he had at USC, and he had a dubious tenure at best as HC with the Raiders. He brings an incredible energy and track record of recruiting. He has assembled perhaps the best coaching staff in all of college fb. You have to love some of the things he brings/has done and wonder about some of the others.

It is interesting that well over half of those that voted, have confidence in Kiffin. since the poll does not match what KNS wanted, they will probably pull the poll.

gotvols writes:

I think that Kiffin shows his youth in his public speaking by stumbling on his words in trying to motivate, (i.e. the remarks against Urban Meyer) and saying things he wishes he hadn't said; however, he shows a great desire and fire that UT has been missing for some time. The inexperience will iron out over the next couple of years as he gets some SEC games under his belt. I just hope he keeps the fire burning. If he does, he will do just fine.

I agree, Gruden sounded good 4 months ago, but now that the smoke has cleared and things are settling down...I like where were at better with Kiffin, he has a better surrounding cast of coaches than Gruden could have put together, plus recruiting is in Kiffins blood...I really have a good feeling about Kiffin, lets just give him time, although I don't think he'll need very long.

Isn't it like 11 wins in the past 14 season's for Tenn over bama? something like that anyway...Were not way behind Bama..If any....the talent is there, plus, we all know what kind of talent Kif and Big O are going to start bringing in..The QB situation "may" hold us down a-bit, but that situation will be fixed very soon..We will still have a 8 win season next year, and next yr may be the last time UF and Ala will be favored to get us..so they better make it count...there TIME is running out!

I'm almost 100% sure that if your not behind CLK 100% then when the season starts and we commence to kicking the shi$ outta these "elite" programs, you should tuck your tail between your legs and go back to eing Nebraska or Miami fans. CLK has said everything knowing full well what the implications would be, also knowing the comments would garner a ton of national attention.
We will compete and win next year, and will only continue to get better. I said this before, and will say it again Alabubba will digress this year and Flariduh will not get all of the lucky bounces again, and despite what you say and or think Percy Harvin was a much bigger part of the Gator puzzle than he is given credit for.
All of that being said, time will tell. I AM, ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, AND ALWAYS WILL BE ORANGE!

This is a really poor question. You should tend to reporting the news and stop trying to create the news.

I'm confident UT gets spanked against Florida this year & in 2010 they probably digress to a 6-6 team b/c of schedule. Oh & I'm confident after that 6-6 year all you hoorahs for Kiffin will turn on him just as you did on Fulmer. I'll be interested to see when UT goes 7-5 & 6-6 if UT fans will have Hamilton & Kiffin's heads on plates like they try to do every other coach when things go south (aka Bruce Pearl being criticized this year after bringing UT back to prominance).
