Bryant will take his time deciding

Mike Edwards hasn’t started playing football for Tennessee, but the cornerback from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio, is already recruiting for the Vols.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Edwards signed with UT on Feb. 4. His teammate, junior cornerback Christian Bryant, received a scholarship offer from the Vols on the same day.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Bryant said he’s heard about UT from Edwards

“He’s been telling me how great they are,” Bryant said. “He told me how they practice and how their intensity in practice is and that the coaching is great.”

Bryant, who also has an offer from Stanford, said he’s learned about UT’s defense from secondary coach Willie Mack Garza.

“He was telling me how their coaching is and how their schemes are and how I would fit in there,” Bryant said of Garza.

Bryant would fit in with Edwards.

Bryant said he would feel better about choosing UT because of Edwards’ presence in Knoxville.

“That would be great because I would be a freshman coming in and he’d be a sophomore,” Bryant said. “He’d really have a feel for all the defenses and all that. I’d probably catch on really quick if I have him next to me.”

Ohio State is next to UT at the top of Bryant’s list.

Ohio State has yet to offer Bryant, but an official invitation is expected soon from the home-state Buckeyes.

Bryant said UT and Ohio State are his two favorites, but he admitted the Buckeyes would be the team to beat if they offer him a scholarship.

“I just really like the whole environment at Ohio State,” he said. “Of course coming from Ohio would be the hometown advantage for me. That’s what I really like about Ohio State.”

Bryant also likes his relationship with Ohio State cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson.

Bryant said he and Johnson speak on the phone occasionally to catch up.

“It’s not really about football as much right now,” said Bryant, who’s also received interest from Michigan State, West Virginia, Maryland, Eastern Michigan and Toledo.

Bryant said he won’t rush into a decision if Ohio State makes an offer.

“I would probably just take my time through the whole recruiting process and give everyone a shot,” he said. “I probably wouldn’t commit right then and there because I would still weigh my options out.”

it would be nice to establish a pipeline to that school. They produce tons of D1 talent each year. Orange Swarm, Reel Them In!!!

I do know that DB is not a worry for us. We need to be hearing about about 7 guys that are 6'5 300. And a QB that ranks in the top 5 for 2010. Thats what we want to be reading about. LB and DB are no worry right now.

We can never have enough Linebackers but I know what your saying. IF we don't get at least 8 linemen next year, no amount of coaching is going to stop teams from running us over or killing our QB

Yeah. We can never have enough, just saying the #1 goal for next year better be O-Line. Our coaches need to be looking for the biggest most talented OL in the country. And start trying to get them to see that they will have a great chance to get a lot of PT at UT. OL, DL and QB is on every VOL fans wish list for 2010 recruiting. Some more great WRs would be nice also.

You, HTV, and IC are all right about the linemen. That must be our main recruiting focus for next year, along with a great QB or two. I'm HOPING we can get a few JC linemen between now and fall practice to at least give us some more big bodies up front.

You hit the nail on the head-- the Vols need to be coached well this season, and win all the ones they are "supposed" to win, along with one or two upsets. If they do that, the top recruits will be jumping at the chance to wear Big Orange.

JUCO at NW MISS. last I saw on him. I have the feeling he isn't in the future plans for the Vols.

since his other buddy didn't "shock the world" and sign with UT, I don't expect this one to do so. Why should we be second fiddle to OSU?
