Nick Montana is using an off-week from school to evaluate his college options.
The junior quarterback from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif., is in Columbus to check out Ohio State today, according to coach Bill Redell.
Montana visited Tennessee earlier this month. The Vols have yet to offer the son of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana a scholarship, Redell said.
Nick Montana has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Maryland, LSU, South Carolina, Florida State, Stanford, Arizona and - as of Monday - Nebraska.
An athletic signal caller who can also play in the pocket, Montana is scheduled to visit Texas later this week while his school takes a ski break.

I wish I had gone to that school when I was young. They seem to have days off every other week.

It doesnt matter we are going to get jake heaps who probably will be the number one QB.I do agree though we probably need to offer him,and not put all our eggs in one basket.

WTF...a ski break? Please!

offer him scholarship already!!!!

Gosh, you sure don't sound like you're happy about Kiffin being the coach. You might want to wait until he coaches a few games before you make your decision one way or the other.

Tell us KNS, we want to know every move this kid makes. So if he's "gettin lucky" while at the ski lodge we want to know the details.....tabloid journalism at its best...

Probably waiting to see Heaps' interest who I think is suppose to visit soon. May be a situation where we agree to only offer Heaps if he agrees to commit. That's what it's soundly like to me. Don't know which is better, Heaps looks like he'll be the number one QB in next year's class. Only thing, I think we could get Montana with Clausen being his coach. Just have to wait and see.
rockytop#413695 writes:
I heard he wasn't going to take his mission. Didn't know that was an option for them, but that's what I read somewhere. If he does take the mission trip I would go another direction as well.
roobomb writes:
The mission is completely voluntary. Young men are urged to go, and I think it helps them mature, but they are in no way forced.
As for the QB, I would still offer him, even if he does go. He'll probably sit his freshman year anyway, leave, mature, come back and be a 21 year old starter with three years left, four if he red shirts.

Get him an offer... then we can offer Gretzky's son who is the JV QB... his favorite target.... Will Smith's son.

Here is his schedule for the next few weeks:
Feb. 23-27: Surf break
March 9-13: Skateboard break
March 23-27: Moped break
April 13-17: Snowmobile break
Hurry up and make the kid an offer. There's no telling what schools he'll be visiting during the next few weeks.

Heaps was suppose to be in Knoxville yesterday according to scout.com - it said he was visiting California on Friday and heading to Knoxville on Sunday....unless that was dead wrong, which you never know.
Heaps said he wanted to committ to someone sooner than later so he can help recruit - sometime in the next month or two it sounded like.
TommyJack writes:
Andy: I'm sure that if Heaps was in Knoxpatch yesterday, the crack KNS staff would have reported it. ;)

Scout.com has the top 100 in 2010 list posted. If you look on there under schools of interest, Tennessee, is on at least 40% of the prospects' lists. We are going to have a great recruiting season this year!

Chris Sims' dad (Phil) went to Morehead State! Wasn't that highly recruited. It turned out well for Phil but no one saw Super Bowl MVP in his future when he came out of high school!

Scout released its top 100 recruits for 2010 and guess who is not among the gifted. Nick Montana!!!! Heaps and Sims both ranked in top 5 Heaps #1 / Sims #5, have real shot at both,so maybe not so much that he dosen't fit,but probably not sure he is good enough!!!!!! IN KIFFIN WE TRUST!!!! GO VOLS!! Names don't mean sh-t!

The real story here is the "ski break". That must be like Spring Break except only rich kids get one.

Why is it "weird" he hasn't been offered yet ?

Most of the highlights I've seen on Montana had poor camera angle. He may be the player Heaps is, I don't know. Heaps highlights are incredible. Heaps also has good blocking and receivers. I think we offer a couple of Heaps' receivers and maybe a lineman or two a ticket to ride as well!

i dont remember any ski breaks at fulton! the only breaks we ever had were when the cops brought the drug dogs to sniff the lockers!

I don't know folks.. 6'-2" - 185lbs. in the SEC ? Last name or not I would be very cautious just as CLK is. Even if you signed him and he was a dud you may be forced to play him because of his last name? Also, he will definitely want to be the only QB signed. I agree with Kiff - Lets take a long look at this one........

Please learn how to spell our coach's name. I get annoyed reading posts from so many of our fans who keep spelling it "Kiffen." It is a standing joke from many of the Bama, Ga and Gator fans who keep bringing up that our fans can't spell Kiffin.

Exactly! SAVol

The best festival for East Tennessee high schoolers would be the Ramp Fest at Kineauvista Hill in Cosby the first weekend in May, except that it is too close to graduation. Of course, some communities have a 'cousin-meeting' soiree at the first sign of spring. Those California private schools don't have anything on us! Ski breaks, indeed! SAVol

a bowler telling someone to STFU!!! Now I can say I've seen and heard everything!!!! Even if you are a hall of fame "bowler",thats as impressive to me as ,lets see maybe when my kid learned to tie his shoes! I don't know, not feeling it!! GO VOLS,STAY OUT OF BOWLING ALLEYS,YOU MIGHT TRANSFORM INTO A POLYESTER WEARING GEEK!

All your takes are sarcastic! You live in georgia, its expected!!!!!Montana is not even close to the QB's Kiffin has already offered,if Montana comes to camp and looks as great as you seem to think he is(without ever seeing him play)then maybe Coach Kiffin will offer him!!

Yeah. Jackson County get out at like 10:00am on Friday for the Polk Salad Festival. Alot of the older kids take the whole day off instead of comming in for 2 hours.

The Mormon mission is strongly encouraged by the church but not required, strictly speaking. In any case, it can be taken at any age over 18, so he could wait until after his pro career if he wanted to. I'm not a Mormon, but my wife used to be one and I got my info from her. Lots of Mormon guys do their missions before they go to college. BYU, Utah, and others have lots of these guys. Their teams have an average age a good deal older than the norm for similar schools.

Ainge was 6'6" and 200 lbs when he arrived in Knoxville. That's pretty dang slim and he turned out ok in the SEC. This kid will fill out as well. They grow A LOT from their junior year in high school to their freshman year in college. I know I did anyway.
