GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida offensive lineman Carl Johnson was arrested on Monday and charged with violating a domestic violence restraining order.
According to Alachua County records, Johnson last week was ordered to stay away from a woman but was arrested early Monday afternoon after he allegedly followed her off a bus.
Johnson, 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, was being held in the Alachua County jail late Monday night.
Florida coach Urban Meyer was unavailable for comment.
Johnson started eight games at left guard for the national champions last season.
Johnson, who will be a junior next season, is the fourth Florida player to be arrested in the past 10 months. Safety Jamar Hornsby was arrested on felony credit card fraud charges last May, cornerback Jacques Rickerson was arrested on felony battery charges last November, and quarterback Cam Newton was arrested on felony burglary charges last November.
Hornsby, Rickerson and Newton are no longer with the team. Hornsby recently signed a national letter-of-intent to play at Ole Miss.

Yeah Im never one to defend these things but the whole story is a little odd. She claims he date raped her 3 times, has claimed to have a goal in life to kill somebody and she says that because he is on the football team she is afraid because there are plenty of guys there who he can have hurt her. Yet with those allegations he was not arrested for one thing only for now violating a restraining order which is a misdemenor. Im almost wondering if this is a case of the girl being angry about something Carl Johnson did and went ahead and made up this story, gets a restraining order, he finds out and wants to confront her on why she said those things. Otherwise, why hasn't he been arrested? I know its not because its Gainesville Police, because they will be the first to arrest any football player. I clearly think there is A LOT more to it than what she is saying. If it is true though, he needs to be kicked off like the other 3 this past year.

Difference is, so far 3 of those 4 have been kicked off the team, no second chances. And #4 will happen if the story comes out to be true. This phooey happens on every campus with every school. Heck, look at Penn State last year. PSU is one of the most professional run programs with Joe Pa and even there he had issues not being able to control some of these thugs that have a free ride. And its how the coaches deal with the situations that speak volumes. So far, Meyer has dealt with each appropriately....meaning they were done!

I'm sure there are some details not printed here, but it seems odd to me that this football player can 'date rape' his girlfriend THREE times, each alleged incident being about a MONTH apart. And, it's only TWO months later that she gets a domestic violence order. Note, there's no mention that she has pressed criminal rape charges.
Maybe this guy is guilty of one or many things. But, these facts don't seem to add up....except maybe to indicate a mad girlfriend who figured out a way to embarrass or exact some sort of revenge against her boyfriend. Hopefully the cops and courts will figure this one out.

Regardless of the merit of the allegations that led to the restraining order, if he refuses to obey the restraining order he should be considered dangerous. If Florida doesn't get rid of this guy, they will have to share responsibility for his actions if he should seriously harm this girl or some other student. You should take stalkers very seriously, especially those who refuse to obey restraining orders. We'll soon see whether Florida puts the safety of its students ahead of retaining a solid football player. My guess is that they will put their students at risk and keep this guy on campus.
