NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has decided to test the free agent market, according to various media reports.
The NFL Network first reported that the two-time All Pro and former University of Tennessee standout will become a free agent after weeks of discussions between his agent, Chad Speck, and the Titans. Free agency begins at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 27.
Speck did not immediately return phone messages left by The Associated Press on Wednesday. The Titans declined to comment, though general manager Mike Reinfeldt said Feb. 12 that the team was concerned about Haynesworth becoming a free agent.
Haynesworth led the Titans with a career-high 8½ sacks this season. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for loss and forced a team-high four fumbles.

The Titans won't spend the money to keep him which is ok. If they did sign him to a big contract he would probably just get fat, or maybe I should say fatter, and miss his typical 4 to 6 games a year like he used to do. Let someone else have him and spend that money wisely in free agency.

Not surprising. Albert's never struck me as a guy who has ever put team first in his college and pro football career.

I love the fact he went from UT to the Titans but the whole defensive player of the year angle was overrated and I think he is buying into it. I hope they don't kill their cap on him. As much as I would love him around he isn't worth 2 or 3 starters in cap money.

I wish the Titans would resign Haynesworth, but hes not worth breaking the bank. We are drafting late in the 1st round, which is around where Ayers is projected. We could pick him up and use him as another DE/DT.

His days as a Titan are over. Time to move on.

Well said, Haynesworth may have a year or two left in his prime but he has always had some minor injury problems and you hit the nail squarely on the head about the big contract. Titans have that young tackle who had four sacks in one game when Haynesworth was sitting out. They need to take that money and get themselves a big time wide receiver. Frankly, I wish they could sign him and then trade him for first and third round draft picks. The deal would already have to basically be made with another team.
Obviously, I would imagine that the front office will agree with the thoughts posted here. It would be a big roll of the dice to sign this guy for over two years.

You really do NOT know or watch football, do you?
He was close to being defensive MVP but missed two games or so due to injury.
The Titans do not go 13-3 without him.
No, I am NOT a Titan fan.

There is one reason why the Titans won't re-sign Haynesworth. "Jason Jones". Jones had 3½ sacks and three forced fumbles against the Steelers while filling in for Albert.

Agree.
Alberts a great player, but the Titans dont think they will get their return on a 5 or 6 year deal with 30 mil guarenteed. There has to be some point where you ask yourself...Am I gonna get my moneys worth?

I'm a season ticket holder. So I have seen plenty of Big Al.
He played great the past two years but that doesn't mean that the Titans should pay what he is asking for.
His production going forward (not past production) is what they will be paying for and I doubt they will get their monies worth if they ante up a huge 4 to 6 year deal with lots of guarenteed money.
FYI...Albert has played 16,12,10,14,11,13 and 14 games during his career in the NFL. So he will most likely miss some games, because history is an indicator of the future.

The colts could sure use a stud d tackle like Albert.

Maybe he just wants to get recruited all over again. Show me the money! I'll be honest, I would do it.
