Tennessee keeps tumbling in the AP women’s college basketball poll, while unbeaten Connecticut keeps racking up victories.
UConn made it 13 consecutive weeks as the unanimous No. 1 team following a rout of Providence and Sunday’s 10-point victory over Notre Dame. The 76-66 win over the Irish was the smallest margin of victory for the Huskies (27-0) this season.
Tennessee dropped five spots to No. 18 for its lowest Top 25 ranking since Feb. 24, 1985. The Lady Vols lost to Duke and Kentucky before beating Mississippi State on Sunday to avoid their first three-game losing streak since 1986.
Oklahoma was a unanimous No. 2 for the third straight week. Stanford and California each moved up a spot to third and fourth, while Maryland improved to No. 5.

I don't see UCON losing, but I'll bet their least favorite team to play in the Final Four, off of what I saw in the Duke-Maryland game yesterday, would be Maryland. Especially if Toliver and Coleman were, "ON" in the same game and Moore was only able to bring her "B" game that day. Things could get really warm for a certain short statured Italian-American coach

Keep working it Pat. If anyone can get this team straightened out, it is you.

I wonder how many years it will take to be a top 5 team all year again?

I think it will be 2-3 years and Lady Vols will be back to that..But if it takes 6-7 I still feel we have sure had our time at the top. Great programs sometimes are down for a while but seem to crawl back up.. and I feel good that we will.

It's not doom and gloom and TN probably will only be out of the top 5 this year. This team is full of freshmen and has had more than its fair share of injuries to key players. Put a healthy Vicki Baugh and Cait McMahan back on this team and its a completely different team. Nobody with realistic expectations could have thought that after losing 5 starters a team with 1 senior and 11 underclassmen would just waltz through the season without any issues. That's not how it works; HS is not the same as college and it was going to take time for this team to learn the system and each other. Just b/c they've struggled this year does not mean they won't be better next year. You can't project off of one year what a player will become. If that were the case, most would have written off the original Super Six pack b/c they were nowhere near what they became as freshmen. This team isn't and shouldn't be concerned about the polls; they should just focus on getting better.
As for anyone that would say who cares b/c it's the Lady Vols. Try watching Sportscenter and seeing let me know what team you see in the opening credits and have seen for over a year now. That would be the TN Lady Vols. Ask why K-town was even considered a finalist for Sportstown USA. A big reason why was b/c of the success of the TN LVs. The publicity they bring on their own is way more valuable then it gets credit for. They're not just a team; they're a brand.

Evidently you care a lot! otherwise, why would you watch this site and comment so much?

I AM a firm supporter of our Lady Vols but it wouldn't have suprised me if they had fell out of the top 25 this week. I think the only thing that saved us was our rpi.
Coach Summitt and her staff know what they are doing, always playing some of the top teams. It pays off in the end.
I feel better after yesterdays showing, especially the second half. I think they are finally "getting it" and turning into a "team". They can make a run in the postseason, if they want to. I expected us to lose 8 to 10 games this year and I expect us to be much better next year. The road to St Louis will be via the long way this year but anything is possible. Go Lady Vols !

About this time next year oughta do it.

At this time of the year you can forget all about records because they are misleading. Teams are getting upset daily. If this team picks it up and play hard and to the best of their abilities they will make a good run. They are capable of beating a lot of the teams they have lost to. I dont underestimate them because they are a good team. They just need to realize it and play hard and make a run, first in this sec tournament, and then the NCAA tournament. I really think they can do it.

Cait McMahan has hung it up for good. Hopefully the same will not be said for Baugh, and she will be allowed to take her time coming back next time. I think she rushed it like Tiger Woods did by playing in last year's US Open. Baugh is talented and tough minded. If healthy will be a much needed team leader
