Steelers' Tomlin to headline UT coaches clinic

Tennessee's annual football coaching clinic will have plenty of star power this year.

The Vols will host head coach Mike Tomlin of the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers during the clinic which will be held April 2 - 4.

He and UT's coaches, including defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, will address the crowd, which is mostly made up of high school coaches.

Tickets are $50. Call 865-974-1248 for more information.

Caveman say lots of wood being gathered in Knoxville. Fire say Super Bowl coach make an impression on young pigball player. Fire say when wood lit, all pigball players from aroung U.S. will have UT in top 5 of short list. Fire like that very much - him gonna make wood very hot - Kinda like Viginia Madsen or Elizabeth Shue. Fire like the way they exhale...

Okay, to some who haven't made the connection. Jimmy Haslam bought a piece of the Steelers a while back. Given his UT ties and noted father, I'd say that a call from one of the owners may have swayed what clinics or talks the Tomlin agreed to do in the off-season. Good for the Vols!

Lane keeps saying recruiting is all about relationships.

Imagine a coach coming to Knoxville and being blown away and spreading the word at his home school to the kids and parents about the new UT. CPF was great on the retail recruiting level(in the recruit's home). Now these new coaches will be great also on the wholesale level, (recruiting the coaches who will pitch UT football to their kids and their parents).
Oh boy, this will be a great Tennessee football era.

I totally agree, just not sure where they should go.

How about don't go away mad, just go away.

Tomlin?

What's he ever done?

Before you go giving all of the credit to Haslam, how 'bout throwing ol' Monte a bone. Do you not think that perhaps he put in a call. Tomlin is a Dungy disciple and coached with the elder Kiffin in Tampa.

Before becoming Minnesota’s defensive coordinator, Tomlin was defensive backs coach for five seasons for one of the NFL’s top defenses in Tampa Bay. Tomlin’s defensive backs earned numerous honors for their play during his coaching tenure. In 2005 Tampa Bay led the NFL in total defense, allowing 277.8 yards per game, and finished 6th in the league against the pass (183.1 avg.).

This is great. Kiffin has got alot of momentum on his side and this only helps with putting the VOLS in the hearts and minds of every HS kid and his parents in the country. Getting these coaches on board, and COACHING them up will only build more promising prospects out of this state. GO VOLS!!!
