Brown still to visit Miami according to Web site

Top-rated running back Bryce Brown says he still plans to visit Miami, according to potentialplayers.com — the Web site handling Brown’s communication with the media.

Numerous Web sites have reported that Miami, which had originally received a commitment from Brown, had grown frustrated with his indecision and set a deadline of Feb. 17 for him to sign.

Here’s the latest from potentialplayers.com:

“The nation’s top player is still set to visit the University of Miami and LSU before he makes his decision on March 16.

“Mr. Arthur Brown Sr. was asked, which school will receive the official visit? ‘That hasn’t been confirmed with either program yet. Once we speak with Coach (Randy) Shannon and Coach (Les) Miles then it will be confirmed. We will be driving to LSU on Friday and he will definitely visit both schools. Official or unofficial to us doesn’t matter, we just want Bryce to visit each school and see what he needs to see,’ said the father of Bryce Brown.”

I have to say I think you have that backwards kinda. Oku to Syracuse, Brown to Vols baby.

Vols have no chance with this guy, move on. Oku will not make any team because of grades, just wait and see. He will have to go to some prep school for a year. We have to play with who we got.

I think Creer could be a very solid RB, sure be nice seeing Brown back there as well....Hardesty is real good when healthy.

True. I just hope who we have are smart enough to learn new things on the football field, have an aptitude for learning. Wonder if that was the problem under Fulmer... too many low-IQ kids, few admirable leaders. I sure like the way CLK and staff are checking classes. Typically, kids who are smart/average in school are prudent students of the game.

It's not surprising that Brian Darden has become a "Who's that?" of UT football when he had potential to be a "Who's Who."

Darden, who if I remember correctly was from Mississippi, was one of, maybe the top, running backs in the country when he came out of high school. He was to be the crown jewel of the signing class.

He was the guy that would break records and end up in the NFL. After stringing along a lot of people, not to the extent of Brown and Oku, Darden signed with UT and promptly did nothing. He lettered in 1996 and 1997, but could never break into the starting lineup playing behind guys like Jay Graham, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry....

My thoughts are with the move of B. Warren to WR, the depth of TE at UGA, UT has a 10% chance of landing O. Charles. Slim, but I'll take it.

If we were trying to convince Charles to come here based on our current lineup, we wouldn't move Warren to WR. Charles would be a much better fit at that spot... but maybe Charles prefers to play TE???

who wouldn't want more talent on the team? b brown is actually a good kid and i think will be fine once he gets to a school. besides, there is nothing to say you aren't allowed to use all the time the ncaa has permitted to make a dicision. If I couldn't make up my mind I would use all the time I had to figure it out too. Nobody has an inside look into his head, so we can only presume as to his intentions, but regardless I think its safe to say that we can always use more talent...

I think Bryce Brown is going to make a mistake if he goes to Oregon. I think he just wants to go there because there jerseys are sick. He said it himself that he dreams on himself playing for Oregon. Bryce would you rather look good or win championships? Whose not to say you aren't going to look good in orange? Come on down here buddy by your junior year you will win the SEC & maybe national championship!

I wouldn't give up on getting OC yet...if he is looking at their depth chart, they have a former #1 TE, a top 5 TE, and this year's #2 TE.

BTW, has anyone seen Oku's 'supposed' girlfriend? Her pic is here.

Ask his coach this question. He would rather look good. He would only carry the ball x amount of times for fear of getting hurt.

Also, by my former comments, THEIR te's would be uga's. TN/USC might have the inside track.

He has repeatedly said he is a TE and didn't understand why Rivals had him listed as a WR prospect. We are recruiting him as a TE.

I'm pretty sure he's got other reasons for looking at Oregon. They had 2 1,000 yard rushers last year. Now that Jeremiah Johnson is gone, I'm sure he thinks he can come in and fill the void. And just recently, the other 1,000 rusher was suspended. Maybe he thinks he will be their starting back. Regardless, it's a pretty nice situation to come into. The only downside is the supposed lack of exposure for playing for a team like Oregon. For someone like Brown, that might be a big deal...

Agree. Get these yahoo's out of the way (will not complain if they do chose us)and bring on Spring practice. Sign Heap. life will be good.

Warren is slimming down - 217 and hopefully speeding up.

Oku denied the pregnancy rumor on the radio last night.

Then why didnt we take Taja Boyd? IMO this has nothing to do with depth or anything, its about getting the #1 player in the country and what it will do for our future in recruiting in the years to come. Its about breathing life back into a tired program. The publicity from this is priceless for Kiffin and staff. They want to make Tennessee the new school to be on all blue chippers short lists, like Florida, Ohio State, Bama etc.

This is OLD news. This was discussed last week on another sports site and also stated that Miami had not set the deadline as was stated by the "handler".
This kid is being lead by the nose and has a good chance of screwing everything up. Spring practice is about to begin and coaches will start to evaluate who they DO HAVE as far as who is going to be a stater. Waiting to decide shows the inability to make a decision and that does not look good on your resume.
He has the talent on the field but enough is enough. It's not like he is a free agent expecting a bigger contract.
4 yr sch. and an opportunity to play football is all you can get at this level.

I think you're right. But I think Kiffin was being sincere when he told Boyd he didn't fit his system. A stellar back like Brown, though, defintely fits into our system

This has become ridiculous, I say we drop them both and move forward. This kid has a handler and a father and none are on the same page. Let him go to Miami and end up as the next Maurice Clarrett

What's your guess as to our starting lineup in the skill positions on offense next year?

QB - Jonathan Crompton, Stephens, Coleman
RB - Lennon Creer, Hardesty, Poole
WR - Gerald Jones, Richardson, Paige, Moore
WR - Brandon Warren, Rogers, Hancock
TE - Jeff Cottam, Douglas, Stocker

There is nothing ridiculous about it. It is frustrating sitting here waiting and seeing these kids do this, but this kind of stuff is what wins ball games. What you do in the off-season predicts what you are going to do on the field. Bryce Brown or David Oku will be the center of our offense 3 years from now. This is a big deal! I do not blaming them for taking time to make the right decision. They want playing time early, so they have a chance to catch NFL scout interest. Wouldn't you want to go where you are most likely going to get playing time?

golfballs03 writes:

We've got a bunch of all-round solid players on offense (save QB) but none that are real game-changers I think. We'll see about Nu'Keese, but I think our best chance is that Creer has a good year. I think we'll need to rely pretty heavily on our running game. With the way this offense is set up, Tauren Poole is one of those runners who can help our offense pick up first downs with his playmaking ability.

His transfer to a new high school in the middle of his senior year will mean his transcript will automatically be red flagged by the clearing house. Someone needing to improve their GPA and/or core courses will get microscope scrutiny. Looks like prep school or JUCO for Mr. Oku.
