Who couldn't see this one coming from a mile down the road?

Under investigation. What a surprise. I was wondering when the NCAA was gonna step in on this cat.

I am absolutely shocked.....

Unfortunately, where there is smoke, there is fire. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Wonder what it might mean for the two RB's?
ctownvol writes:
You're right. He is and they should.
volstasis writes:
So it is true that Miami did indeed pull his offer.
huntined#565710 writes:
Just wondering why it took this long?? He has been involved a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time in this.
texasvol73 writes:
I know he is a great talent, but where there is smoke, there is fire and this screams of more than just Butler. Kiffin can pick up a stud RB next year, I would pull the offer and not fool with this kid anymore. Yes, it may turn out to be nothing...but, Butler is not going away once Brown steps foot on a campus...
thevoice writes:
I just hope Brown isn't the one on the left in the picture. If so, he looks like a project to me.
thevoice writes:
Right, but according to Brown, he still may attend there, evidently without a scholarship. LOL
tn_vol_67 writes:
I'm glad he is finally in the Spot Light!!
therewillbeorange writes:
There are so many red flags with this kid. I am hesitant to say this because he would be such an exciting player to watch on the field. But I think we should pass.
Same goes for Oku.

"former rapper and cell phone call center manager"- yeah, that sounds about right

This guy is as shady as a maple tree

Back off, Lane.
No reason taking a risk on this kid when tailback is not a pressing need right now.
Docrok writes:
The water is definitely murky there isn't it!!! And I agree for this year and I think we are solid at RB!
bosscat writes:
Even if there were no repurcussions from Brown's connection with Butler, the old (real old) expression "One rotten apple spoils the barrel" argues to stay clear of him.
DennisVols writes:
I said it last week that this "handler" issue couuld wind up costing Brown.
Butler is a hustler of young players. He is only out to promote himself and not the kids he claims to represent.
Many of these kids come from families who do not have the knowledge or resources to fully understand the whole recruitment process.
I hope this investagation puts a light on hustlers like Butler and stops them from ruining a kids opportunity.
spencer1989#206886 writes:
And with Mr Butler being his "agent" something really smells about this one. What high school kid needs an agent working for him? This makes as much sense as a box of rocks...But go figure. This reminds me of a big headed baseball player out there that thinks he is bigger than the game.
VolFanNC writes:
Scary comments are how he was upset that K-State didn't donate to his web site....wonder if that was a precondition for him "steering" his athletes to a program....
lilesrt writes:
I was thinking the same thing. With the terms "Butler's Client" being referenced it seems as though someone is getting a kick back. The NCAA needs to put a stop to this nonsense.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
KNS just provided a link to a NY Times article, and it only mentioned Brown, his brother, and another player on Brown's former HS team. This was not a KNS story as such.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
"Agent" in this context includes some kind of financial arrangement. It is not yet proven that such a relationship exists. That is one of the issues the investigation will look at.

Sorry for the repeat. For some reason, the original comment didn't show up, so I rewrote it.
FWBVol writes:
Even when I was in high school in the 1970s and "signing day" was in the November or early December, it never was a single day, nor has it been a single day since they moved the "first" day of the signing period to the first Wednesday in February.
The signing period has always been about eight weeks/two months. Most kids do make their decision and know where they want to go so they sign the first day, but I don't have any problem with giving some kids the extra time they need to make a decision.
Granted, as a fan two months seems a little long. Maybe they should shrink the signing period to say a month.
I just wonder how many of us would be complaining if Tennessee wasn't being considered by any of these kids.
SEAL_9821 writes:
Just wonder if some of that money Butler was getting thru his website was getting filtered back to Brown and other players he is doing this for. Sounds like a no win situation with him.
ctownvol writes:
You are correct sir. Good ol' copy and paste KNS at work again. Speaking of the KNS isn't it time for zz to show himself today?
utvol2485 writes:
I'm with you all the way. I would love to have Bryce Brown on the team next year for obvious reasons, but we don't need the drama/baggage.
Brian Butler reminds me, just a bit, of L.V. Miles from Friday Night Lights.

"'former rapper and cell phone call center manager'- yeah, that sounds about right"
Couldn't have said it any better my friend. This guy just sounds like a mooch to me.
GO VOLS!!!

Bryce Brown and David Oku were great high school players but they have not done one thing at the college level. Once they go to college and have success there, then maybe they deserve an "agent". Until then they have proved absolutely nothing as far as im concerned. Just because these players have all of the tools to be professional ball players does not mean they are. It takes alot of work to get to that point. Dominance in high school does not mean dominance in college. Brian Butler get a life! Its about you. Its always been about you! The NCAA needs to intervene and put a stop to all of this garbage. If they do not it will only get worse. It would not hurt my feelings one bit if the colleges interested in Bryce Brown and David Oku would pull there offers strictly because of Brian Butler. How great would that be. It makes no sense that colleges should have to go through a third party to recruit a player. This is not the NFL and if you ask me that is what makes college athletics so great. Brian Butler is out to ruin the purity of college athletics!

Surely Butler isnt trying to profit from all of this "mentoring". Who would do such a thing!

once a pimp...always a pimp...he's just hustlin' HS players instead of hoes. Seriously, I don't see how parents and coaches with any ethics let this cat near their sons.

Who cares about butler! We need Brown or Oku! You guys say oh just sign one next year. No, it doesn't work that way. What if Creer gets injured first game. Hardesty is gone after this year. What if Creer gets injured two seasons. We saw our best running back go down in 98 (Jamal Lewis). Astoundingly, we had Henry and Bryson to pick up the slack. Also, these days you see teams with two NFL caliber running backs. This is a huge deal. You always have to have players developing at young age so there sophomore, junior, and senior years they will be ready. I know you might not like this comment, but look at NIck Saban. He signs a top flight running back each or every other year, and by the time they are juniors they are awesome. We do not ever need to pass up recruits like these guys. If they sign the are done with Butler. They will be property of Kiffin and Co. Kiffin will straighten them out.Lets get them in. Go Vols!
You do not want to get three years down the road and have an injury and say man I wish we would have got that brown or Oku kid. Lets Go Vols Wake Up

I agree, with the points of not signing this guy. Even if it turns out to be nothing right now, nobody works for free. I feel that UT would be the ones to pay for it. Good luck Bryce, but our backs that we have are good enough for me. GO VOLS!!!
NUCLEARORANGE5712 writes:
Like I said. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. We need these guys back. You cannot think temporary, instead you need to think long term.
hotrodvol writes:
I say don't throw Brown away just because we don't understand what's going on with Butler. Sure we do have potential with the RBs we have, that's all it is, buy the way, none of them have shown us any thing yet though. Hardesty is not durable, probable better as a third down back. They say Poole runs hard but not very fast. Creer could be the top back, but he didn't exactly tear it up last year. Was it the Clawfense? Probably, most likely.
Brown will be a stud, right it down he will be a great player. Myself I hope he's wearing orange next year.

Brown is a great talent. It is very few and far between (and not since Barry Sanders) that such an outstanding athlete comes out of the city of Wichita or the state of Kansas. He and his parents were naive when they decided to go with Butler to help them make what is essentially the biggest decision in his life. It's unfortunate that his high school coach is completely worthless and didn't intervene and get Butler out of there. Mistakes were made...but I can guarantee, barring injury, that he will be one hell of a college player somewhere. Sure hope Bill Snyder and Kansas State recruit him even harder now!!

According to some other folk, Butler's motives are less than altruistic.
