Vols to host star cornerback Jackson; father candidate for staff

Tennessee is expecting one official visitor this weekend.

Janzen Jackson, a 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback from Barbe High School in Lake Charles, La., has been committed to LSU since February. He is considered by many recruiting services as one of the best cornerback prospects in the nation.

Jackson's father, Lance Guidry, is also a candidate to join new coach Lane Kiffin's staff. Guidry is secondary coach at McNeese State.

Guidry had been defensive coordinator McNeese from 2000-04, but left after the 2004 season to become coach at Carencro High for three seasons.

Guidry was also a standout defensive back for McNeese.

I don't think Coach Kiffin would sign a bad coach. I know that's what it may appear, but whatever the circumstances, if we get Jackson then we get him. We don't currently have a Secondary coach do we?

And if they do....who cares? It is called recruiting.

5 Star. At least he's not becoming the head coach like Wade Houston! If he's qualified, what's the problem?
This guy flies! Percy Harvin speed.

This will be the first of many five stars to see the Hill! Definite upgrade on talent coming to a National TV near you! Difference is they will be coached up for a change once they get here.

No. Did you ever hear of Wade and Alan Houston? That didn't work out too well.

If you would all ignore him..he might stop responding..it's a kid getting his jollies on the VOL board..nothing else.

I agree Naval..it's a stretch to say that Kiffin is hiring staff just to get a 5 star. It's a little more involved than that.

Just looked at some highlights on Rivals on this kid!
I hope we get him!!!

So anyway..it won't be long until the transgressing interloper disappears..actually in about an hour.

gohawks1 writes:

He's from Louisiana and has been committed to LSU - probably won't change. As a matter of fact, the article says nothing about him coming to TN. That's just Mr. Hooker's way of pushing your buttons a little bit.

And the imposters/posers?

JKW50 writes:

With the defensive staff we have, we dont have to give jobs to someones dad just to get him to come here. monte isnt isnt goin that happen, if the dad is the real deal then getting the son is just a bonus.

I don't think they're hiring the guy in order to get one recruit. Especially since hiring the guy doesn't even guarantee they get him. A lot of kids probably wouldn't want the added pressure and criticism of being coached by their dad.

Posers are lower than interlopers.

I live in Carencro Louisiana and I am a huge Volunteer fan. Lance Guidry coached at Carencro High in '04. He was a good coach but not iconic by any means. I find it hard to believe he is a serious canidate for Clk's staff. It really makes me wonder how his name got in the mix. I have to believe if he is hired it will be a father son package deal. His son JJ is a stud at Barbe High School no doubt. I just can not help but think their are better coaching options out there.

Exactly..you wouldn't want to risk a bad hire just because a kid is 5 star. Obviously Kiffin is going after him for his coaching skills. Tennessee was already recruiting his son. Rivals has him listed as a medium interest, but is committed to LSU. Like any recruit..anything can change before Feb 4th.

lol TJ..add charlatans to that list.

But you can fire a coach after one season. Once a player is here its unlikely he will transfer.

I say we follow the Urban Meyer recruiting methodology: do and say whatever it takes to get the kid to sign. If they find out the day after signing day it was all lies, you still have overwhelming odds the kid will play for you.

My favorite Urban story is when he told a QB prospect [was it Jevan Snead?] that Tebow was going to play LB so they still needed to sign a QB. Although Tebow probably could play LB...

Dude! They aren't hiring this guy because of his son. That is just ridiculous. So..if his son gets hurt and isn't about to complete his 4 years they fire the coach ? Come on. That's a Fulmer move not a Kiffin move.
