TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama running back Glen Coffee will skip his senior season to enter the NFL draft after a breakout season with the Crimson Tide.
Coffee announced his decision Friday, following star offensive lineman Andre Smith into professional football.
“I really enjoyed my time at the University of Alabama, but I think it is the right time for me to move on to the NFL,” Coffee said in a statement. “Alabama has been a tremendous place for me to develop as both a football player and a person. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of coaches.”
The Fort Walton Beach, Fla., native told the Mobile Press-Register that the NFL draft advisory board projected him as a mid-round pick.
Coffee ranked second in the SEC with 1,383 yards this season after starting only three games in his first two seasons. He gained 218 yards against Kentucky.
Coffee’s 117-yard average in league games was tops among SEC backs.
Mark Ingram will be the most likely successor in the backfield. He was the league’s No. 6 rusher with 681 yards and a team-best 11 touchdowns.

What if we got on their planes with our box cutters? Where would we fly their planes into? The blooming desert? Some oil dereks? Why would we ever and even bother to have anything to do with these people anyway? What do they have to offer to us except violence and oil? Really, what do they have to offer to us? And they come over here for freedom and liberty? If they were happy why don't they stay over there ??? As it is written, give a fool an inch and he'll take a mile.

Tell that to the people who lost loved ones in the twin towers fiasco! Our country is only as strong as our weakest links, and brother you sure sound like one, and a big cry baby to boot! And yo u call yourself a Vol? Really! What if we all took that negative attitude and asked to be excluded from our government and political process. Remember the 9 11 fiasco almost stopped our fantastic football season, now didn't it? The terrorists made you talk politics then didn't they? And the congress voted to go to Iraq and make it right now didn't it ? We beat Florida that year didn't we? And when did we do it? And what were they ranked at the time? And who was the coach, and who was the quarterback?

I agree with the "No Politics" comment, for the record. Sports lets us escape the horrors of the world for a bit.

I expect he was. Any running back as accomplished as Coffee should head for the league.
RBs can only take so many hits. Might as well get paid (more) for your pain and suffering.

Welove, I sure hope you live somewhere besides the great state of Tennessee. Your comments epitomize what the terrorists were trying to accomplish in the first place - to bring out the hatred in our own society. Stop for just a figgin second and think about what you are saying. And to the idiot that say this is a CHRISTAIN COUNTRY, OMG, how in God's good name can you be so myopic. This country was founded on Freedom and Religious Freedom was one of those freedom's. Are you really saying that Christainity is the only legitimate religion in this country - if so, please move to China where this kind of thinking is the norm. Being a Christain, it sickens me to see such non-Christ-like comments like these.
