Come March, throw the rankings out the door. We'll be fine! This YOUNG team will gel.

Hopefully it will motivate Hopson to keep being aggressive and driving to the hole, not just launching long-range jumpers.

haha, Kentucky still isn't ranked though.

I guess Catscratch can scratch his head on why his team is in the same boat as us in the "others receiving votes" category.

No one should be surprised by this. Quality wins over now #11 Marquette and #12 Georgetown. Good to see Memphis ranked, will make UT's win on Saturday that much better!

Go VOLS!

Oppss.. who came back into the top 25 and
who fell out. (Hint see number 22).

MemphoVol writes:

Memphis lost its star players from last year, much like Tennessee. Saturday will be a good game, but Memphis will not be able to hold up to the crowd at TB. Vols will step up and win by 10.

This is good. We've eaten enough humble pie this season, now its time to continue our dominance of the state by going 2-0 this week.

GO BIG ORANGE!

omg i cant believe this happened haha why even make this an article..what fan thought were gonna stay in the top 25 haha we will be ok

At this point we shouldn't be ranked. But I really think this team is going to gel. We showed signs of it against SC. I have confindence that BP will get them going. Now let's go and win one at Vandy. One at a time. Go Vols!

OK did I miss some thing? I thought the last game UT played was Sat. aginst USC and we won.

Great for the tigers as they come to Knoxville. This may motivate our youngsters.

And the game before that we got our butt kicked at home by an unranked ky team ... this is not unexpected ...

Go Vols!

Not playing like a top 25 team..will take some big wins to return..

It appears that the panel of coaches will always blackball Bruce Pearl unless the Vols are 15-0 from his blowing the whisle on a "fellow coach" a few years back.
= I notice that ND has 5 losses still in top 25 etc..

The Vols need to beat Vandy then KY memphis "State" get back on track.

Looking at our losses: 2 to the Zags, a good team. A loss at Kansas in a hostile environment. UK, a team with a one man show in TBA. Temple was the worst, a pathetic team. Overall, we should be 14-2. This young team will start peaking this week.

Unlike the other polls, the AP makes public the results of their individual voters. For anyone interested in looking deeper into the AP poll, this is a pretty cool site (check out how our own Mike Griffith voted):

Plasticman, totally agree with you, polls are not a big deal, just thought it was interesting to see the mindset of some of these guys. I think Davis is looking at who ND lost to this week: in OT at Louisville and then blown-out at the Carrier Dome. The teams in the Big East are just killing each other, they are going to eat up a lot of "at-large" bids this year.

March madness is the plan. Let's stay patient with the young pups. There's lots of talent there and BP's a top tier coach, so we've got a lot to look forward to this season. 'Probably not final four but still a good showing.

Like the old song went, "you don't know what you've got till its gone"! I and obviously a lot of others actually thought the team might be slightly improved this year what with bring in the new highly regarded freshman and also continued improvement with the returning underclassmen. But so far its been a big disappointing season. Now playing no better than 4th place in the SEC when preseason, UT was voted overwhelming favorites to win the conference. But keep the faith,in time Pearl will turn this team around to respectablity. Can't expect them to remain in Top 25 after being embarrassed week after week on national TV. But one thing he must do is change how they set up for shots as you can't play 3 point offense if you have no 3 point shooters!

Good, a ranked team to beat Saturday.

just so were clear on the trolls, this was the 6th post on the CA in Memphis. please vol fans we all have trolls. Once again you seem to live in a bubble.

As for the game this week. I will be honest, I have no idea which Tiger team or vol team, will show up. I wish we werent ranked, we dont deserve it either. I think we play better D but dont shoot the rock any better. Chism is better than anything we have inside and our best player is a frosh. I will say this, you need the win much worse than us.

one more thing, I wonder if all those people that like both Memphis and TN are the ones that jump ship so fast on both teams??? Go Tigers!

However; the Vols have not faced a defensive team quite like the Tigers. It will be a good game, but if it's low scoring then it favors the Tigers. If Scotty continues to blossom it will favor the Vols. I don't think the Tigers will be intimidated by the TBA crowd. What I look too see is how this game will be officiated. Will they let them play or will the Refs be sucking whistle from the tip off.

Ralph_Crampton writes:

If the Vols are say a half-a-step too slow this year, well, you can't coach quickness, and any improvement might be very little if any...Vols can't really shoot the three's, their inside game hasn't come around...this could the reason teams are playing zone defense against them. It might be wise to stop full court press and go the zone themselves. Try it.
