DT Warner to visit UT this weekend; DE Montgomery changes to Jan. 30

Defensive lineman Branden Warner from Compton (Calif.) Community College will take an official visit to UT this weekend.

Warner is originally from Mays High School in Atlanta, Ga.

"I will be visiting Tennessee this weekend," Warner told Rivals.com. "I was interested because it is only two hours away from home."

Distance won't be the deciding factor, Warner said, now that he has reevaluated his priorities.

"Playing at home was once important, but it is not anymore," Warner said. "I have been away now for over a year now so. Location is no longer an issue. It's all about business now. Meaning getting my degree and playing time."

Warner committed to UCLA in November but has since considered UT, Washington and Washington State.

Sam Says: Sam Montgomery was originally scheduled to take his official visit to UT this weekend but will instead take his trip to Knoxville on Jan. 30, just days before National Signing Day on Feb. 4. That will give the Vols the last face-to-face meeting for the 6-4, 230-pound defensive end who is also considering LSU, Michigan, North Carolina and Oregon.

Hope we reel in Montgomery and Warner. We always need more depth on the D line.

We need them both. Good news that Montgomery is visiting UT last.

Darn..they didn't have Alabubba on their list. I was hoping to give them something else to worry about.

If Warner is smart he will play for UT and be NFL ready when he leaves school.

LOL -- You noticed that too, eh? Having done that trip many times, I can say that many people sure look like they're at least trying to do it in 2 hours.

how can you be so sure 4LIFE? I have heard that he is a North Carolina lock. Hope we pull it our though.

Thanks for the update KNS.

Not sure how fast he drives but there is no way you can get from downtown Atlanta to Knoxville in two hours.

That is ALL good news. Just reel 'em to Ktown and they'll be hooked. It will be interesting to see how many more suprise visitors we get before signing day. Seems Warner is already committed to UT.

I know the QB situation is tough for us this year. But, has anyone heard anything about maybe stealing a 12th hour change of mind on one of these recruits? I can't believe that Kiffin doesn't have a suprise up his sleeve considering Boyd is still undecided and was co-MVP for the Army game (I think that's right) and given his hiring tactics of staff lately. Anyone got any theories? It just could be that we forego a QB this year for a top notch one next year, but it's hard to believe.

Not going to lie but I've made the trip in 2 hours and 15 mins it was in that middle of the night and we were in a mustang on our way to PCB on Spring Break but it can be done. But I hope we get these guys too

Read this story yesterday on scout.com, but nevertheless, good news!

I think Warner will be a Vol and I can only hope that we get Montgomery. They both would help with depth and I can only imagine how good they can be since lookin at Ole Miss's d line since Orgeron coached them up.

UTVolAlum writes:

Dave Hooker should read the latest comments on Volquest from Brandon Warner who said Tennessee called today to inform him they were going in a different direction. Warner will NOT be visiting Knoxville.

Great memory. Still have "Bat Out of Hell".

UTVolAlum writes:

Assistant Coach James Cregg called Warner this morning and told him Tennessee is going into a different direction.

Warner will either attend UCLA or Washington.

Hopefully Hooker updates the story soon!
