Despite rumors that have circulated around the status of David Oku, the tailback from Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Okla., said Thursday he has no intentions of taking official visits elsewhere.
“As far as visiting other schools, I think I’m pretty sold on Tennessee,” said Oku, who was rumored to be considering North Carolina and California. “It’s really hard to squeeze stuff in the last minute before National Signing Day (on Feb. 4).”
Oku, who committed to Tennessee in September, said he’s been impressed by UT coach Lane Kiffin and his new staff.
“Unbelievable,” the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder said. “Kiffin has brought in unbelievable people.”
Oku said the next step for Kiffin is to prove he can win.
“Only time can tell,” Oku said.

good deal. A David Oku / Eddie Lacy or maybe even Trent Richardson combo in the backfield would be deadly.

I was hoping all along he would stay strong. Something about him seems right. I think he's going to be a great get. Go Vols.

Hmmmm. The Manning Award is named for a Manning(s), not a Tebow. A Manning played at Tennessee. No Manning(s) played at Florida. Winning awards is cool, but it seems to me that having an award named after you is even cooler.

All that gator dude does is take cheap shots. But I was nice about it too. I balanced the insult to one lizard fan with a compliment to another. BTW, I can promise I don't need you to tell me what to write. So myob.

I really doubt Crompton plays unless things go south. There's really no benefit because he only has one year left. I expect Stephens will be our QB.

Oku...glad you are a Vol...awesome! As for Tebow...he deserves it. Great guy and player.
kwlightmin#206976 writes:
I agree totally. I may be crazy, but I'm actually not concerned about our QB's. I think the comments made by Briscoe about Clawson actually shed some light on why our QB's were so bad. I think the offense was too complicated too fast. Kiffin will simplify the offense and it should be more similar to Cutcliffe's. We have to remember that Crompton played pretty good when he had to back-up Erik Ainge a couple years ago (of course he was throwing to Meachem and Swain). If memory serves, he almost beat a great LSU team and would have had it not been for Chavis' mustang package. I'm actually more concerned about our depth at DT and OL. This is where you get beat in the SEC. Having Oku, Poole, Hardesty, and Creer and possibly some other great RB's (if we can get another one in this class) will help the QB also. I'm excited about Oku. I think he's gonna be good.

Could you please tell us the names of every player who is going to sign with the Vols on February 4.
dlobh writes:
I am so sorry. Yeah, you're probably right. I shouldn't reply to the "interloper". But it seems to me that you are still telling me what to do. And you definitely didn't mind to tell me that I have no class, in your all-wise opinion. If I have offended anyone else, I apologize.

Surely you all can see that Gatorzz is getting just what he wants .....attention....don't help him...ignore him...sooner or later he'll give up and beg to get back in with the other gator fans . For some reason, he must not be welcome there. Perhaps they learned quicker than we have.
JohnsonCity_George writes:
Thanks for bringing that up. Nobody ever wants to talk about that. Why? I think it says a lot about the character of a young man who admittedly does not like to socialize and has a very, very close relationship with a same sex roommate.

"our boys helped win the Civil War"? What the ...ll? I thought we lost that war? Maybe you meant the war with Mexico? Remember the Alamo! Don't they teach history in school anymore? Sorry, I couldn't resist. Oh, Oku's the man!
Timed_vol writes:
no, very astute on your part. A long comment made short, I hope it makes sense:
UT's players were NOT smart enough to run Clawson's system. His system is meant for smarter (but less athletic) players. Harsh?? I suppose.
So, based on that, Lane should do better with the same talent, because he will simplify things.

Tebow is a great college quarterback...don't think he'll be much of qb in the pro's...he would make a better tight end...I know it sounds crazy but he couldn't even make the top 5 list by NFL scouts this season and he won the National Title...but congrats on winning the Manning Award.
By the way....when you're F'd out of a Heismen the next best thing is to have a college award named after you!

rllipscomb#212376 writes:
You are right about the talent level not being as bad as the critics say. The same people who recruit defensive players recuit offensive players, and we had the 4th ranked defense last year. Clawson's offense simple made the offensive talent look bad.
You seem to like to study the game. So here is a suggestion. Take the scholarship players and break them down by class. After 2005, Fulmer cracked down on discipline, and we lost a lot of players. But since that time, our backdoor losses have been much less. I think you will find that that our retentionn rate for each class is much higher than the 2002-2006 period. he talent level per class is pretty high. To me, this and other indicators are an indication that the talent level has not fallen off as much as the critics say.
Docrok writes:
Actually I agree with you! Crompton was the #2 rated Pro-style Qb in his class. Also if you look at the KY game Crompton did a good job of running the offense and also went through his progressions! I think with a power football approach the protection will be there for Crompton and the passing game will open up.
