Tennessee’s men’s tennis team was picked to win the SEC East over two-time defending national champion Georgia, the UT sports information office announced in a release.
The poll of conference coaches had the Vols first with 67 votes, followed by Florida with 59 and Georgia with 53.
The Vols return five lettermen including sophomore John-Patrick Smith who recently won the SEC Indoor singles title and teamed with Davey Sandren to win the SEC Indoor doubles title.
Mississippi was picked to win the SEC title.
Tennessee, ranked eighth nationally, begins its dual-meet season Saturday with matches against ETSU at 10:30 a.m. and Tennessee Wesleyan at 4 p.m. at Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.

Coach Winterbotham and Coach Woodruff, have done a great job recruiting and developing this young team. I hope they can live up to or exceed the SEC coaches predictions for this year. Good luck; GO VOLS!
