Moses among visitors; QB McCarron decides against visit

Tennessee received a big addition to its list of weekend visitors when offensive lineman Morgan Moses from Meadowbrook High School in Richmond, Va., decided to make an official visit.

The addition of the 6-foot-7, 347-pound Moses helped the absence of quarterback A.J. McCarron from St. Paul’s Episcopal High School in Mobile, Ala.

McCarron, who has been committed to Alabama since May, had considered visiting UT but decided against it.

The Vols were able to convince several prospects who are committed elsewhere to make the trip to Knoxville.

Linebacker Petey Smith (Alabama) from Armwood High School in Seffner, Fla., running back Kendrick Hardy (Southern Miss) from Lawrence County High in Monticello, Miss., athlete Marsalis Teague (Florida) from Henry County High in Paris, Tenn., and defensive back Nyshier Oliver (Notre Dame) from St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, N.J., all decided to visit UT despite being committed to other schools.

Oliver’s visit is intriguing because he originally committed to UT in June but later de-committed and gave a pledge to Notre Dame.

Other late additions to UT’s weekend of visitors include defensive end Jarrett Brown from Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, and linebacker Shane Gordon from Cypress Bay High in Weston, Fla.

My Man! This keeps getting better, and better! I must say I was really hoping A.J. would visit...

I hope we can use the players that are already commited to sway the opinions of those that are not committed or committed elsewhere to give their pleadge to the VOLS instead.

I think the problem with AJ, is that his Dad doesn't want him to visit. AJ wants too, but his Dad put the smack down on him.

Between this weekends visits and next weeks visits, I know we'll grab a few commitments once they get a taste of what the VOLS have to offer.

I have heard around the grape vine here in Columbus MS that Patterson is more than likely to bammer. Anything can change and i hope it is not true but that is what i am hearing around here. He is from a place about 30 minutes from where i live.

volroadwarrior writes:

Saban told AJ he would put a contract out on him if he visited. Just kidding, but you can believe a lot of pressure was applied.

HonoluluVol writes:

W won't get a QB that class. But, I feel we need some play makers. Someone that can take the pressure off of the QB to make it happen. I think an explosive running game and WR with good route running capability will make our QB's a whole lot better.

I wonder how the dad/A.J. would feel if things don't work out for A.J. at bama and UT wins the nat. championship? Regardless, if we get 2/3s of these guys this weekend, and another good haul next weekend.... we gotta be a top 5 class!!(even w/o a QB)

I don't think AJ is that good, his arm is very suspect and we can do a lot next year!!!

Patterson is either Bama or Mississippi State bound. He says he prefers playing in a spread offense.

TNfaninMS writes:

I would rather Pat Patterson end up at MS state. They need a playmaker at WR and Patterson would give them that. They have a pretty good class thus far and it would be nice to see them turn it around and play up to SEC level. That being said GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!

No joking there, Watched a few of his games here in Chattanooga. Guy was a stud. Also smart. He'll pick up new offense ten times quicker than "Crampton" and Stephens.

Oku is taking other visits. Thats not good news. It seems like we are losing more ground than we are gaining.

Saban_Palin writes:

AJ didn't want to waste your time nor his. He is Bama bound to throw to Julio & other star receivers, perhaps Pat Patterson or Reuban Randle. His dad had nothing to do with it, that was a dumb comment. He has a strong, accurate arm, thus the high rating (the weak arm comment was also misinformed, made be a jealous dufus no doubt).
Also, Greg Reid decided against UT for this weekend and is visiting Alabama.

If you go through the article, Oku never said that he would not be taking visits.

Only Dave Hooker could interpret "I think I’m pretty sold on Tennessee" as actually meaning "Oku says he has no plans to take more visits."

To the average person, I think I'm pretty sold on Tennessee means he really likes Tennessee, but the door is still open.

Where the heck he got "Oku says he has no plans to take more visits," leaves me astonished at his stupidity.

You are crazy if you think Bj is the starter...Stephens is by far the better QBs among the three of them. He will come around next year mark my words.

It's comical to watch you poor Tennessee fans get excited about visits and rumors of visits.
The ship is sinking kids. There's a new captain, but he's stuck with the sad collection of players Phil left behind before riding off to collect his 6 mil. He's recruiting recruiters who are questionable coaches, not big time players.
Tennessee is losing high school players, not gaining them.
But keep dreaming. Fulmer will be paid off in four years, then you can pay off the Kiffins and find a "coach."

This message goes to AJ McCarron...At first I thought what a good guy to have on our team..an Episcopalian that comes from the depths of nowhere, skinny guy, no meat, all stars...then he wants to make a visist to Tennessee..then he doesn't...and decides to stay with BAMA...OK..HEY AJ...whatever your motive...I am watching..and so are a lot of VOLS..you do have to visit Neyland..and it's not going to be as pretty as you once thought..

I'm telling you guys, I love the Vols and support Coach Kiffin, but I think it's really too late to land these recruits coming tomorrow and on the 30th. They're just using up their free visits and like the attention. I think we'll be better on the field this fall and will beat the teams we're supposed to beat, but I think if we get a recruiting class ranked 15th, we should all celebrate. No fault of Kiffin's, we just got started to late and these recruits don't know what to expect from the new Vols. Very few guys want to be guinea pigs even if we have one of the best staffs in the country.
