AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn's Clinton Durst was one of the best punters in the SEC in 2008, but now he's leaving the team after being denied a scholarship by the new coaching staff.
Durst said Thursday he was promised a scholarship by former coach Tommy Tuberville's staff, but those plans changed after Gene Chizik was hired. Chizik said Durst might earn a scholarship in the summer.
While Durst said he respected the new coaches' decision, he felt he deserved a scholarship after his performance last year. The walk-on was third in the SEC and 26th nationally in punting, averaging more than 42 yards a kick.
Durst is from Destin, Fla. He said he will remain at Auburn as a student but has to work so he can afford classes.

Remember Damon Duvall... punter for Auburn that got booted during a game against Tennessee for bad mouthing Tubberville 'bout 6 years back?

from his stats looks like to me he earned that scholarship, but again were talking about something that only people in alabama would understand.

Do walk ons, Non scholarship players have to set out a year if they transfer to a Div.1 school? I don't know anything about this kid, but our kicking game does need help.

Somebody send that boy a road map to Knoxville. War Geese have lost three commitments this week too!

Gen Neyland would have made his most talented player his kicker.
Next best 11 went on defense.
Whatever was left over was the offense.
Worked for a long time.

Freezing Vol in Mich, I think the rule is if you transfer to a school within the conference you are in unless, the coach gives you a release. Whoa. Contrast Chizic coming in with everyone mad about it to the excitement around Kiffen. May have to make my first spring game. Stay warm.
Voluvr writes:
If Kiffen jumped in and gave that boy a full ride those bamer bumpkin's would mutiny Cheezik before the season starts.
Voluvr writes:
True. That tradition just ended with Kiffen's hire.
