Schofield's final answer ... Vols

JerQuari Schofield is committed to Tennessee – again.

“I have made my final decision,” the 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive lineman from South Aiken (S.C.) High School said in a text message to the News Sentinel on Sunday following his official visit to UT. “I will be a Vol this time next year.”

Schofield originally committed to be a Vol in June but has since considered Clemson, where he took an official visit earlier this month. Schofield had expressed concern about UT’s coaching change.

In the end, Schofield’s heart led him to Knoxville.

“It was really the fact that I’d always been a Vol fan,” he said. “Clemson had a great staff and the players are good guys but I had to find the place that suited me best.”

Don’t expect Clemson to quietly fade into the recruiting sunset. Commitments are non-binding until prospects sign a letter of intent on National Signing Day on Feb. 4.

Schofield said he called Clemson to inform them of his latest decision.

“But coach said he would keep in touch from time to time to make sure nothing changes,” Schofield said of Clemson’s response.

I love it when O linemen commit to Tennessee. Especially when Chaney said he wants a commitment to running the ball here.

Well I don't know about all you guys, but I am checking this site about every 30 minutes to see if we have picked up any commits. I am saving that 7 day trial for vol quest until next weekend. You know get the most out of something free. Plus once signing day is over don't think there will be much need for them. Anyway for those of you that do pay for those sites keep us up and informed with what is going on.

Very true ctown. Lots of folks who visit here can't grasp that most of these 18 year olds we're courting are not and have never been Vol fans.

Can't understand that but I can accept it. :)

You are absolutely on target and I could not agree more. It's a real pain to have to wade through those posts (first, second, third.... and the replies to those that think its so cute to be first...second...) in order to read comments that are worthwhile.

I like the idea of a good player who has Tennessee in his heart. I know the stars assigned by rivals and scout don't mean everything, but if he's graded out with 4 stars AND is a "fan" of UT? Bring him on.

Feb 4th will be the final result. Look for some surprises, some disappointments. Overall, it's not a bad class so far. Congrats Schofield on your decision. Hope you do well in class and on the field as well. Go VOLS!

A lot of the guys that visited have been pretty solid with the Vols from the beginning, some to the point that they didn't bother taking any other visits. That being said, I wouldn't expect any huge suprises this weekend.

Green, Thigpen, and Revis didn't take any other visits. And it counts for absolutely nothing, but I feel pretty good about Shackleford, Edwards, Teague, and Oliver as well.

I think the rest of the guys are wild cards at this point and would be especially suprised to see anything from Washington, Myles, Brown, Jeffery before signing day.

The leader of our pack fumbled so we'll be stuck in Memphis for the evening meal.

Great News, by the way had a chance to see Askew and Thigpen play this year and both are the real deal. Askew may not be 6 foot but is a beast and Thigpen can fly, he's also a great track guy, back in August CPF told him he'd play RB or in the slot but probably projects in the secondary.

I agree kid. Guys who really want to be a Vol will work a little harder, run a little faster, and lift a little longer.

Welcome to Knoxville Mr. Schofield. We'll leave the light on for ya.

Maverick, don't pay much attention to the star ratings..Many 3 stars have done well and many 5 stars or 4 stars haven't done so well. It's about playing as a team, coaching, and of course getting good players who can go the distance in their 4 years of playing college athletics.

lovinwk writes:

Rhea County offensive lineman Kevin Revis always knew that he wanted to play for Tennessee. He was in Knoxville over the weekend trying to learn about the new Vol staff and help recruit other players that might want to wear the orange and white.

"It was really good," Revis said. "I got to meet the players again and know the new coaches. I also hung out with the prospects. I made sure to talk to everyone of them and tell them this is best place to be. I felt like a lot of kids are feeling good about it."

Revis has been to Knoxville several times. Seeing the academic side and all of the facilities was obviously nice, but he's been there and done that. This trip was different due to the activities.

"The basketball game was cool," Revis said. "Coach Kiffin took us in the locker room and they had jersey's for us to put on and we ran out like it was real game. We all took a picture together with the our jersey on. It was a great experience."

During the basketball game, the crowd of over 20,000 fans gave the prospects a very nice ovation. That was a moment that left Revis and the others in shock.

"That definitely showed how committed everyone in the state is," Revis said. "That is one of the things that separate Tennessee from other schools. The fan base is just great and that plays a roll in recruiting."

During the down time, Revis got to know the coaching staff and he tried to focus on building a relationship with the coach that will be teaching him how to become a better player.

"I talked to coach Cheney a lot," Revis said. "He's going to be coaching the guards and centers so it was good to spend time getting to know him. I also spent time with coach Cregg. As for the players I spent a lot of time with Carson Anderson who was my host and Ben Bartholomew."

Revis says he learned two things from his visit that let him know that the new look Tennessee staff was ready to put Tennessee back in the championship mix.

"I learned that they are going to coach with a lot of intensity," Revis said. "They are also going to have a lot of discipline and I think that is what the program needs. I also learned that the players are great, no matter what grade they are in. Nobody is stuck up."

Revis made the short trip back to Rhea County on Sunday afternoon with one mission to complete before he arrives for good this summer. He's has to get bigger, faster, and stronger.

"They told me to hit the weights and start running," Revis said. "They told me to get to work and to make sure I come in as big as I can and as fast as I can."

Revis might not wait till the summer time to come back, he said he might be back in Knoxville next weekend to help the recruiting efforts.

"Who knows, I may come in next weekend since I live so close and try and help recruit a little bit," Revis said with a laugh. "It's just an hour drive."

If I am a recruit or parent of one... that would really make me angry, do you think CLK is pointing that out, to him?

Can anyone add more?
