Myles now has UT in mix

What once seemed a long shot, is a real possibility.

Darren Myles Sr. said his son, Darren Myles Jr., is strongly considering Tennessee after his official visit this weekend.

The elder Myles said his son has eliminated Purdue and is primarily considering UT, Alabama, LSU and Kentucky.

“I thought everything went well,” Myles Sr. said. “Monte Kiffin was real easy to talk to.”

Kiffin’s first phone call when he was named UT’s defensive coordinator was to Myles Jr., a 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety from Carver High School in Atlanta.

Myles Sr. said that Alabama and LSU had surged ahead of the competition before his son visited Knoxville.

“That was the case before the Tennessee visit,” Myles Sr. said. “He actually got more out of that visit — out of the staff — than we expected.”

Myles Sr. said his son was concerned with the unknowns surrounding head coach Lane Kiffin’s incomplete staff, especially concerning who UT’s defensive coaches would be. With a full complement of coaches, those concerns are no more.

“After looking at the staff,” Myles Sr. said. “Tennessee is definitely in the mix.”

Myles Sr., who is the head coach at Carver, spent much of his time in Knoxville visiting with Kiffin about his defense.

“His dad would love to have him in that scheme,” said Myles Sr., referring to himself in the third person.

Myles Sr. said UT’s coaches cited his leadership ability as an added bonus. Myles Jr. regularly takes part in community service in the Atlanta area.

Myles Sr. said UT’s coaches also believe there’s a chance that his son could play as a freshman based off issues the Vols have had at free safety. Rising senior Demetrice Morley has had multiple disciplinary issues.

Myles Sr., who played at Purdue, said he didn’t mind his son ruling out Purdue in order to play in the SEC.

“I always stated to him that I didn’t want him to consider Purdue just because I went there,” Myles Sr. said.

The Myles family will take an official visit to Kentucky this weekend. Myles Jr. is expected to make an announcement on National Signing Day on Feb. 4.

This would be a huge GET if our staff can pull this off. Myles is a very good kid and will benifit greatly from playing under Monte. Sounds like the father likes the idea of him playing at UT - and so do I. Come Feb 4th he will be colored in Big Orange! GO VOLS!!!

Myles has one more scheduled visit left for this weekend, that visit being Kentucky... I like the taste we leave in his mouth over Kentuckys any day.

Our only problem would be Satan, he is a hell of a coach and recruitor.

If this comes down to where Miles Sr. thinks his son will be better coached there's no question that the choice should be Tennessee. Saban has a "reputation" of being a good defensive coach. But he is not in the same league with Monte. Go north young man. There's gold in them there hills.

The best coaching I saw from Satan against Utah was when he would rush up to the sideline after a nice Utah play cursing his guts out.

I hope the Myles family is classy enough to ignore the bullying that is the Alabama program.

I hope that what you read turns out be a true indicator. I sat about four rows in front of coack kiff recruits and co at the bball game saturday, and i saw parents and family aplenty. I was hard to know who was really with who, but all said there were probaly 10-12 rows of thompson boling occupied by the recruiting entourage.

A LB recruit for next year:
Fred Harvey from White Station HS in Memphis and is getting attention but check out the academics.

per Rivals-
Harvey has received interest from Memphis, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Alabama and others. The Memphis coaching staff has told Harvey that the reason they don't recruit the area heavily is because of the problems getting players qualified. That won't be an issue with Harvey.

Good post, but they also do not recruit Memphis because their HC is widely considered as a moron. There are plenty of kids with good enough grades in this area that never hear so much as a peep out of Memphis.

My favorite story is of West showing up at an All-Star game and and inquiring to a HS coach the name of a kid that was out on the field. The coach shook his head and replied that the kid was one of the top players in the country at his position and headed to Miami. The school the kid played for was within 5 miles of the Memphis campus.

What I like about Coach Kiffen, he has landed his DREAM JOB! Head Coach of the Tennessee Volunteers!
UF Coach Meyer's DREAM JOB is to be Head Coach at Notre Dame
UA Coach Saban's DREAM JOB is coach for anyone who will pay him top dollars.
Both of the latter could change to their DREAM JOB in the next few years. Coach Kiffen and the Vols will make that decision easy for them!

Escited and can't wait for NSD to get here. Hopefully more will commit to UT before the signing day gets here. Another big group of recruits in again this W/E!

Coaches from Penny Hardaway's school care about getting players qualified academically?

You might be right about that. It could explain some of the cases of "WHY ISN'T THAT GUY PLAYING?!?!" under the Fulmer regime.
