Call it the SEC East rival tour.
Marlon Brown took an official visit to Florida last weekend. He’ll take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend.
“It was real good,” the 6-foot-5, 210-pound receiver from Harding Academy in Memphis said of his trip to Gainesville. “I had fun. I talked to the coaches a lot and the players a little bit so it was fun.”
Brown, who is the News Sentinel’s top prospect in the state, said he was most impressed with Gator head coach Urban Meyer.
“Coach Meyer stood out to me personally,” Brown said. “It was my first time seeing him. To be honest, he acts like a little kid. He’s laid back and real cool to talk to.”
Brown has prototypical NFL speed and size, which makes one think he’d chose a school based on its ability to get him ready for professional football.
Despite an unconventional running attack, Florida’s passing offense could do just that.
“Their passing offense it’s just like a spread offense,” said Brown, who admitted that Florida’s offensive attack is appealing.
Brown will host visitors from the five schools he’s considering (UT, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and Ohio State) this week.
Receivers coach Frank Wilson will represent the Vols. Brown said he’s talked to Wilson “a little bit” and that his relationship with the newly hired coach is “fine”.
Brown said he’s unsure what to expect out of his trip to Knoxville and, as one of UT’s top targets, doesn’t’ even know if he’ll have any questions remaining about UT when he arrives on campus.
“To be honest,” Brown said, “I really have no idea yet.”

I wonder if he's referring to all the child like tantrums, or all the f'n crying? lol

This kid is eating it up, as he should. I wonder if the fans from the other schools after him (UF, OSU, UM) are as obsessive about his recruitment as we are? Hook needs to ask him.

Amen LOL...I'm Urby-Poo Oscar Meyer...don't talk to Tennessee of Alabama because it will make my little kitty down below hurt!
Volumni writes:
What's interesting is how KNS is spinning this for Florida, while Volquest reports the opposite:
Quote:
"I cannot wait," Brown said with enthusiasm. "I don't know what to expect this weekend. It's a new coaching staff so I don't know to be honest. It's my last visit and it's the last time I'll be a high school athlete visiting a school. I'm from Memphis so I have natural ties to Tennessee. I'm really looking forward to it."
Lane Kiffin has made no secret that Brown is very important to this signing class -- without ever publicly naming Brown. It's been well publicized that Kiffin's first visit once he took the reigns of the Tennessee program was to see Brown. A relationship started that day and continues to build as Brown heads into his final official visit this weekend.
Way to go KNS! Great job as always.

I hope he signs with the Vols but wish the kid the best of luck wherever he goes.
Come to Knoxville, and he'll be treated like family. Go to UF, and he'll be questioned for not being Percy Harvin and having world class speed.

Gotta be honest... didn't like the vibe of this article.
Hooker,

I think you read my mind, Volumni. I had the same opinion, just didn't get it typed fast enough.
Completely agree... funny how the Hook-meister spun the web differently.

Big test for our new recruiting staff. They need to step up and close the deal on this in state recruit. Lots of money being paid to this staff just for this reason. Close the deal.
VolPatrick writes:
You better be careful there. Coach Meyer might come over to your house just to use those two timeouts he still has from the title game. Just to let you know he's the biggest d-bag in the conference.

Yahoo has a signing day special on their website. They have the top recruits and where they will sign based on a few different recruiting analysts. The consensus for Marlon Brown is Georgia. Check it out www.yahoo.com - at the bottom right of their home page.

At this point I don't really care if he comes here. One player doesn't make a team, and this guy is going to be a cancer. Reminds me alot of the Patrick Turner saga.

Robert Meachem, Donte' Stallworth, Mark Jones, Kelly Washington, David Martin, Peerless Price, Eric Parker, Cedric Wilson, Carl Pickens, Alvin Harper....all receivers at UT that made it to the NFL....and I probably missed a few....Marlon Brown could join them

I like the January-18th-mtoms1272 better than the January 27th version.
What happened to the zeal, brother? If you got news, spill it...
Go4Two writes:
mtoms I going to have to disagree with you on the one player deal. In today's football the diffenence between good teams and championship teams can be 2 or 3 players if they are of M. Brown status. Think about the loss of Eric A. and how one player affected the team.

Is he talking about Urban or the Gators mascot?
murrayvol writes:
Well said kid.
Kiffin needs to sign Mr. Brown for one reason....PERCEPTION.
He's the consensus pick as Tennessee's best player. That he's a pretty good receiver is a bonus.
mhillvol#275693 writes:
I wonder if Patrick Turner could go back in time if he would have picked the vols? He had a decent senior season at USC but nothing spectacular!
Freshman year 170 rec yds
Sophmore year 272 rec yds
Junior year 569 rec yds
Senior year 741 rec yds

Have you met this kid? He is very humble and is certainly not going to be a cancer wherever he ends up. I really hope we get him.
Some of you people need to give these recruits a break. Remember, these are still high school seniors. They are having the time of their lives, so let them enjoy it.
stinky_pinky writes:
Marlon appears to be a good kid. There hasn't been one point in his recruiting process in which he's led one school to believe he would come to their school. Sounds to me like he's enjoying the experience and I see nothing wrong w/ it. He'll only have this opportunity once.
I hope he's a Vol this time next week!
adamsck#591720 writes:
I am having a hard time getting a feel for what he's going to do based on the quotes I read and which are attributed to him. He's obviously gotten some very good "coaching" on playing it close to the vest.
I sure hope he picks UT but I'm just not seeing anything that makes me think he will or won't pick anybody.
gatorzz you really crack me up. I hope you know how pathetic it is that you post here. I wouldn't waste one second of my life reading a Florida webpage, let alone trying to rile up a bunch of Florida fans by posting there. Whatever gets you going I guess.
carpentermike5#409005 writes:
WRONG WRONG WRONG... look at what Julio Jones did at Alabama. He made a crappy QB like John Parker Wilson look like an All-American. There is something to be said about they type of reciever u just have to throw it up to...lets face it, our QB's need all the help they can get.

good point. he may have had better numbers at UT his first three years, but i don't think jerry rice would have had a good year for the VOLs last year.
i'm writing brown off. i get the feeling he's leading us on. hope i'm wrong.

i said this yesterday....
"richardson, brown, and the other big fish.....orson charles have all been to gainesville.
i forget when each of them were there.
the visits went well and i could go into some detail.....
but, i don't put much faith in that stuff because 99% of the time, the kids said they had a great time, like the staff, like the program, like the facilities, etc, etc, etc, of every school they visit.
so, who knows."
iwastherein98 writes:
We need Marlon badly. Not only for his talent but to show other top players in Memphis (where the majority of the in-state talent is) that UT is the place to be.
Sports Illustrated had a map showing where D1 recruits were from. Memphis was one of the darkest shades there was, meaning that there are currently about 50 D1 players from here. We have to start getting the best of those players.
SemperVol writes:
Granted, I wanted to hear him say...
"Ya know... that place is the pits, the coach is a boob, the players are all yahoos, the food sucks, and where the hell is my hat?"
I care none... that is, until 7 more days have passed. Like, 99, said... what's not to enjoy about a free vacation?
Down_The_Field writes:
agreed!!! these guys are thrill junkies and magalomaniacs they crave the spotlight and will say anything.

You should care if he comes here or not...This year for the perception we can lock down the best players in our state and so our qb's have someone to get the ball to. Next year when we are in the running for a stud qb he will say look who i have to throw the ball to and other wr's will say look at the playing time he received and what he did with it.

in most gator circles, i read that they think they have a "chance" to get marlon brown, but that he will likely not go to florida.

I found it interesting that his first trip to Florida was when he finally met Coach Meyer. Coack Kiffin made it a point to visit Marlon as one of his first acts as head coach at Tennessee. Which coach and school do you think wants him more.
