Former Farragut High School standout pitcher Rob Catapano is back in Tennessee.
The left-handed pitcher, who was a Louisville Slugger All-American at Farragut, transferred from North Carolina and is enrolled at UT.
As a transfer student, Catapano won't be eligible to play for the Vols until next season. Starting in 2010, he'll have two years of eligibility remaining.
Catapano appeared in 46 games over two seasons with the Tar Heels, posting a 5-1 record and 3.42 ERA . Last season, he was 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA and struck out 40 in 38 2/3 innings.
He pitched in the College World Series during both his seasons at Carolina.
At Farragut, he earned PrepXtra Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2006, finishing with 114 strikeouts and a 10-1 record over 85 1/3 innings pitched.
Catapano was a part of three state championship teams, including 2006 when he pitched a two-hitter in Farragut's 7-0 victory over Bartlett in title game.
Drew Edwards may be reached at 865-342-6274.

This is really good news for the future of the program. The kid can really pitch and it sends a message to other area players that you can get your shot with the Vols if you get yourself ready.
