WR Kelly to visit UT

Wide receiver Kendall Kelly from Gadsden (Ala.) City High School will visit Tennessee this weekend, the News Sentinel has learned from a member of the Gadsden City football office.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Kelly is also considering Alabama, LSU and Clemson. Auburn had been in the running but was unable to secure a visit from Kelly.

Kelly’s teammate, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, will not join Kelly in Knoxville.

Kirkpatrick, who’s considering Alabama, Florida and Texas, took an unofficial visit to UT in September.

Kirkpatrick underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday and had to cancel a planned trip to LSU.

Alabama is thought to be the favorite to land Kirkpatrick.

This is a decoy. They put "Ward Visits UT" that way all those dumb bama fans couldn't figure out who really is visiting, because they can't read whole sentences.Brilliant!

Good to see you back biggie. We could have used you lately, we've had an interloper virus. We've come to together as the VOL NATION, and have found a solution, just ignore them, lol.

NSD is just around the corner, big weekend coming up lots of kids checking us out. It's great to be a VOL.

law_vol writes:

Shouldn't KNS report whether or not there is a school that is thought to be a favorite with Kelly? They did for Dre and he wasn't the primary subject of the article.

this is a big time guy. ill be happy to get any one of the following and ill be ok for this years receiving group- patterson, jeffries, brown, stokes, or kelly. If we get just one out of this group then land one big time receiver every year we will be back at our wide receiver U glory days and will be pumping them out again

I almost named him Kendell "The Warden" Kelly but anyway I'm hoping he and Marcus Hall are in the basket after this weekend.

JMP_Vols writes:

Wonder if Saban tried to talk Kelly out of this visit?

Maybe someone can clarify why A.J. visiting was such a big issue for Saban, but for other recruits its apparently not.

utchris writes:

Tennessee was not on his radar until recently. Read some articles though that think he is looking to go to a place where some of the other top ranked WR go. For example, the feeling was that he might go to which ever school Reuben Randle did not go to. Maybe e can slip in there.

I have not expected to grab a lot of these kids so late in the process, but at the very least it creates a buzz about TN again and will help us get kids looking our way for next year.

RoyaltyVol writes:

oh well, guess they fixed the typo!

Wonder when Saban will decide for Trent Richardson that it's best he not come visit Knoxville this weekend?

Ok, Ill say it!!! We havent done anything on the recruiting side of the ball, no one has committed as of yet. Ill eat my words if I have to. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do not get your hopes up for an extremely talented class this year. High hopes can lead to very disasterous dissapointments. Now, I understand how everyone is excited, as well as I am. But I dont want everyone crashing down on our new head coach, if he doesnt get it done thise year, give him time and he will prevail. Believe in him, but dont expect the end of the rainbow.

True enough. I'm ready to see somebody coach the kids we've got. Warren TE, Creer and Poole RB, Gerald Jones(what a freak of talent). Thank god I won't see Clawson's rendition of football again in my life.

I agree, these coaches have only been on the job for maybe 8 ,some only 4 weeks ,we cant complain with what we end up with this year cause either way it goes its going to be better than most of us expected. but I do look for a couple of surprises along with a few disappointments on NSD but we will take what we get and add it to the talent that we already have thats been sitting on the bench rotting away and get this train back on track.

Exactly. If Ole Miss can turn in one season. I'm certain we can compete. Time to change the attitude. No more losing to pukes like Wyoming. At UT we compete for SEC championships period. Can't wait to attend OandW game. It will be the largest crowd to date.

Thanks Bro'! I'm here for only a few minutes...but things are looking great...except for the severe interloper virus! It's the worst I've seen. I was wondering if it was some secret Government project gone terribly awry with freaks of nature mutating and multiplying in record numbers! Keep the Faith! The Vols will be fun to watch! Go Vols!

High hopes are fine, but no need to be disappointed with this years class.

The way I see it, the new staff has a primary and secondary goal.

Primary- salvage/retain the best of this years existing class..... I think they have done pretty well at this

Secondary- Get some extra guys that fit the new plan. Time will tell.

Time will also tell about the boyd kid, but at least when we tell someone that they fit- it ain't just BS (like UM telling snead that Tebow would be a LB)

Lastly- the building hype is great for the program. Lots of kids are interested that would not have been under the old regime. I hope to see lots of power T hats on signing day, and even if the kids dont' put them on, we still will have a presence.

not necessarily.

saban recruited a lot of players living in AL. The area is just more plentiful in talent. TN is a bit different. Recruiting memphis is the equivalent of bama recruiting Louisiana. ingram out of michigan was a pull, but most others were more local.

Anyway, daphne, foley, etc. have been putting out incredible talent lately with pat white, julio, fluker.
You might as well include pensacola as a suburb.

DrJCrown_theMagicMan writes:

I do hope we get this guy but I will be surprised if we do.
I understand getting as many visits as we can but I also understand this may just be another recruit who has already decided just looking for a free party and free meal.

Ignore the interlopers..=) A lot of schools will experience the same thing. We are no different. Many last minute recruits will cancel their trips or make a visit. It's a recruit's right since they have to decide where to spend the next 4 years. Some students will do well, some will not. But so far, we arn't doing poorly. We will have a good class by Feb 4. Keep the faith and as always, GO VOLS!

Hey Guys,
This is my first post of hopefully many to come. I have been reading this site since kiff jumped on board.

<Few opinions> Many have said our QBs in the inventory are less than stellar. Maybe I am optimistic, but I think all will excel in the pro style offense CLK is bringing in. After all its pretty tough to make adecision when a LB is in your face at the snap.

Hardesty and Creer are impressive backs and it will be nice to see the stable grow on NSD. Our Running attack will be impressive by 2010.

I have to deal with all the Johnny come lately gator fans here in FL, and it sucks. Noticed one GATORZZ hangs out here and spouts his rhetoric.

Weekend visits. This weekend will be a good one to cap the 5 week recruiting effort of 2009 by the new staff. I tend to agree with most on here. We should get half the recruits that visit this week. I would love to see us get Brown and Patterson. with them and stokes and Oku or Lacey on the O, we will have more than enough to create headaches for any DC.
