As the week winds down, Tennessee’s official visit list is beginning to come into focus. The News Sentinel has 10 visitors scheduled to take in Knoxville this weekend, although more could be added at any moment.
Florida receiver commitment Nu’Keese Richardson from Pahokee, Fla. and Pensacola (Fla.) tailback Trent Richardson will not be making the trip but Jonathan Evans and Kendall Kelly will. Here is the latest, as of Thursday evening:
Prospect Pos. Size Hometown/School
Orson Charles TE 6-3, 230 Tampa, Fla./Plant
Charles is still considering Southern California, Florida State, Florida and Georgia so UT has an uphill battle. USC has long had a certain allure but Georgia has made a push. Charles will visit Los Angeles on Feb. 6 meaning this one is likely to go past National Signing Day.
Marlon Brown WR 6-5, 205 Memphis/Harding Academy
If you don’t know who Brown is by now, welcome back from the cave. He’s priority No. 1 for the Vols. Georgia is still lurking and seems to be the team for UT to beat. Florida, Ohio State and Ole Miss are also in the mix.
Jonathan Evans LB 6-0, 205 Prichard, Ala./Blount
Evans has been committed to Auburn since June, but what does that really mean anymore? Like the Vols, the Tigers have had their fair share of turnover meaning most commitments have been targeted.
Marcus Hall OL 6-5, 290 Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville
Most have pegged Hall as an eventual Ohio State commitment. His teammate, UT commitment Mike Edwards, said that’s not the case and that Hall will “shock the world”. We’ll see. Hall has taken official visits to Ohio State, Miami and Michigan.
Kendall Kelly WR 6-4, 210 Gadsden, Ala./Gadsden City
Another possible surprise for a prospect that has been all Alabama and Clemson to this point, Kelly is just the type of receiver that has excelled in Lane Kiffin’s pro-style offenses of the past. This would be an amazing coup.
Eddie Lacy RB 5-11, 210 Dutchtown, La./Geismar
Lacy took an official visit to Alabama last weekend, which sets up an interesting battle between two rivals. Both schools have commitments from top tailbacks. Alabama has proximity on its side.
Sam Montgomery DE 6-4, 230 Greenwood (S.C.) High School
LSU looks like the team to beat. The Tigers led months ago before a defensive coaching change. Now, defensive coordinator John Chavis, a South Carolina native, could help close the deal. It will take a big visit for the Vols to jump into the lead.
Brandon Moore OL 6-5, 315 Montgomery, Ala./Carver
The Vols have some major ground to make up in this one. Alabama, Auburn and Florida have already hosted Moore for official visits. Still, it’s worth a shot and the Vols’ coaches aren’t afraid to take a swing.
Patrick Patterson WR 6-3, 215 Macon, Miss./Noxubee County
A highly rated, undecided wide receiver, Patterson has visited Alabama, Ole Miss and Southern Miss this month. The Vols are determined to land as many top-notch receivers as possible.
Tana Patrick LB 6-3, 215 Stevenson, Ala./North Jackson
Of all the prospects that would anger Alabama coach Nick Saban, this would bust a blood vessel if he decided to go elsewhere. If the Vols can land Patrick, it would rank among the best late pickups in recent memory. Alabama, Auburn and Southern California are in the mix.

I do think Brown is our best shot, but not our only. We are definitely players for Lacy, Montgomery, and Patterson. Don't know if we get any of them, but we do have their attention at least--which is WAY better than 2 months ago...

Brown and Patrick will commit. Then Kiffin Lite will privately tell them they don't fit his system. Bah humbug.

I am thoroughly convinced that the interlopers here are paid to post on every article, on every day, at every hour.

You and gatorzz should get a room. Then you could put on your red elephant PJs with the Nick Saban embossed butt flap and he could put on his Gator mask and y'all could role play while making more little interlopers with low IQs and bad punctuation skills. It would be a better use of your time than posting on a site for real Tennessee fans...

If these players want the same old college team routine they can take their pick. If they want to be where all the best players are getting the best possible training to go to the NFL, they will go to Tennessee. Tennessee is also where all the major media coverage is going to be. SI has already forecasted UT to have the #1 class in 2010.
The players overall experience here will be unmatched.

Also, it is funny to read some comments while there on the Stokes article. It seems like UGA may be hitting a little panic mode after losing 2 receivers in a 48 hour span. One of which was offered by Oklahoma for the first time just days before he committed.

This site is going to be crazy that day.
Does anybody know what time it will be on Feb 4th?
If we get 5 or more of these listed on this article I am going to be very impressed and pleased!

If UT could get a third of these players, plus a couple from last week, and not lose any that we already have. A good solid class I would say. Then next year sign an allstar class.

everyone will beat me down for this, but i would be surprised if you got any more than 2 of these.
a lot of guys on this list, tenn is just wasting its time.
kiffin has done an admirable job with the little time he has had.
next year will probably be a lot different.
but, got way too late in the game to persuade some of these guys.
a couple of questions, is anyone worried or upset about the recruits that kiffin has cut loose?
how many is tennessee looking to sign this year and how many next year?

Here is some information on Rivals about our chances with many of the players on CLK's wish list. It could get very interesting, but CLK still has a lot of work to do between now and Wednesday. Could be some home runs and could be some strikeouts too.

Where in the SEC are you allowed "middle ground" anyway. Its not far from hero to zero, or the other way around. I think Kiffin is doing the smart thing by paying his coaches more. It shows he has less of an ego when is comes to his salary, and his goal is to win, win, win. It may take a couple of years to all come together, but UT will compete for the SEC, and National Championship sooner than later.
Let's get the best recruits we can this year, make the best of what already on the squad, and get ready for 2009!
GO VOLS!!
Docrok writes:
Again everyone thinks our success next year rests on the recruits we sign this offseason. I do not! The talent is there as this years juniors and seniors are from highly ranked recruiting classes. I think the first difference is going to be having the team prepared to play on Saturday. Many of you do not realize the lack of discipline that had formed with the players. It is hard for players to be ready for a game on Sat when they are up till 4 and 5 am having a good time. 05 and 06 show the difference coaching can make in a players performance. Crompton was the number 2 rated QB coming out of HS, Coleman was the number 6 rated QB coming out of HS, and all three QBs have displayed great arm strength. RB's have shown that they can get the job done if given a crease. I say we be patient and wait for the showdown in the Swamp. The talent is there!

Yea, Kiffin should just pack up and leave town, now.
Completely and utterly destroyed by the UM head-fake.
I don't know if we'll ever see a move so staggering and staunch with victory in our lifetimes.
He should go stick his head in the sand. Maybe he'll find one of these sugar-cane, cotton-tails to feed on.

Maybe this is why there aren't as many swift hombres that hail from the great state of Tennessee. I mean, most of our youth concerned with catching rabbits opt for the .410 shotgun. Short and sweet... then they gain weight.
Makes sense.

Great post bama...half the posters on here can only whine about fans of other teams being on a 'Vol site.' If ANYONE doesn't like it, simply don't respond. I would disagree with knowledgeable. They are not knowledgeable about the players on our roster, but then again too neither are many of the UT fans! I dont have a problem with them! I get bored too! But make no mistake they are not knowledgeable unless opinions are considered knowleadge these days!!
Docrok writes:
And I will back that up by asking them how many players that are on UT's roster that started or played in games last year on on Rivals top 100 players through the recruiting years. I will then follow that up with how much they know about each player! They make statements based off ESPN highlights and maybe 1 game they say UT play in!

Something I had not considered until today. Our visitors this weekend will probably sit around with our coaches and watch the Super Bowl. Monte Kiffin will be there with his Super Bowl and telling the recruits what it is like to be in the Super Bowl.
Good times. Good times.
