Linebacker D.T. Shackelford from Austin High School in Decatur, Ala., has switched his commitment from Tennessee to Ole Miss.
Austin coach David Norwood confirmed Shackelford’s decision.
“He just said he had a good feeling and he was very comfortable at Ole Miss,” Norwood said about Shackelford’s decision.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Shackelford, who originally committed to UT in August, took official visits to UT, Ole Miss and Auburn this month.

KNS is all over it. This was reported hours ago.

Maybe he was a little intimidated with the big time. Or, got the impression that he wasn't a big priority.
Anyone hear any word on commitments tonight?
uahvol75 writes:
How exactly did this happen? did he not fit the system like the others? Im not so sure about this "you dont fit the system" stuff..but i will try and continue to trust the staff..cmon Feb 4th bring us some good news!

His loss...not ours.
lastlap writes:
That's why you don't worry about telling a kid he doesn't fit in your plans. Players can drop you just as fast as a coach can let them go. Only difference is the football team foots the bill.
VolInSabanLand writes:
And they even managed to get his high school coach's name wrong.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
Like I said earlier, he's a local boy. We try to sell the in-state kids on playing before the home folks. No surprise that it works the same way on some guys from other states. We still have some good ones on the board; let's be glad for the ones we DO get, and we WILL get some of them!
Greer_Vol_22 writes:
its all in the name of need. Probably told he will be ready to start in 2-3 years....who knows
Saban_Palin writes:
Surely not the greatest recruiter in the history of mankind, Lance Thompson would lose a player at his position of expertise, Linebacker, to Ole Miss? No way. Alabama had the number one class last year because of Lance Thompson. It had nothing to do with Nick Saban or Alabama's winning tradition. This is a huge shock. Oh well, Tennessee must not have wanted him. That's it.

Yeah, thats worse, especially since THEY BEAT YOUR MIGHTY GATORS IN The SWAMP.
GO TO YOUR OWN site, please.
I know you are just a little 13 year old but let us adults talk sports.
And do not talk about grammatical errors. You gave incorrect information, period. And most people are in a hurry while they type so.......

Anyone else notice that KNS is "johnny on the spot" (for their standards) when someone DECOMMITS but if someone is committing then we get it on here a day or 2 later. WTF is up with that?
gohawks1 writes:
Hotty toddy gosh almighty,
when's Ole Miss gonna beat somebody?
cjraney writes:
Perhaps he figured he rather be one of 2 LBs in Ole Miss' class rather than being one of 5-7 LBs in UT's class. Ole Miss also graduated 2 of their starting LBs if I remember correctly.
vol1994 writes:
Last I check we lost to wyoming, Florida, SC, Georgia,UCLA, and Auburn; however, I did not make the reference regarding Coach NUTT and Ole Miss, you did.
You just said OLE Miss was a good team so not only did you give incorrect information you are now contradicting your original comment stating it was worse to Lose a recruit to Nutt.
cjraney writes:
I was looking forward to seeing him though. He was described as very hard-working and dedicated to improving himself even in the HS offseason. Good luck DT.
elsinoresam writes:
No big deal, if he's happier there good for him. CLK will bring in kids that want to play for Tennessee. Nutt starts off great then as the expectations get higher his results decline.
vol1994 writes:
Before I check out does anyone have any NEW news regarding any of our recruits?
I posted last week that OKU really enjoyed syracuse and the ORANGE said they feel he will DEcommit from the VOLS.
Now I read he is visiting (or visited Auburn)? I don't think this kid is coming to UT? anyone else hear or have any opinions about this kid? Is he the real deal? Why is he down on UT?
floridavolsfan writes:
The Nutt cracker named Houston!!
vol1994 writes:
I really cannot answer that question except assume the kid feels he will not play his freshman or sophomore year. Or maybe he feels Ole Miss will be more competitive than UT.
I think you are selling NUTT a little short. He won at Arkansas overall and recruited very well.
Why do you think he decommitted?
volinlouisiana writes:
A poster on the other article about which recriuts are still out there said he knows DT personally and that UT dropped the ball on him. He said UT didn't call until DT got MVP at an all-star game and that 1 of the H.S. coaches got the you don't fit the system call. This is basically gossip, since it is 3rd or 4th hand, but if that's true, then I for one am a little dissapointed.
floridavolsfan writes:
He went to a team that routed TT in the Cotton Bowl! We lost to Wyoming at home!---remember? Results have big consequences, especially in recruiting wars!

BATTLE FOR FLORIDA
The Combatants: Florida, Florida State, Miami
The Winner: Florida State
Which team won the in-state battle in the Sunshine State? It's a close call, but the edge goes to Florida State. FSU has 13 commitments from the state's top 100 players, including five of the top 20. Miami has 11 of the state's top 100 and three of the top 20. Florida has four of the top 14 and eight of the top 100. USF has recruited the best class in school history, with seven of the top 100. UCF has two of the top 100 in Josh Robinson and Leon Woods. Some of the state's best talent got away, though, including four of the top 10. The state's No. 1 player, Trent Richardson, is an Alabama commitment. The top quarterback, Aaron Murray, already is enrolled at Georgia. Top 10 players Jaamal Berry and Zeke Motta are headed to Ohio State and Notre Dame, respectively. South Carolina, Michigan and West Virginia are three out-of-state schools that recruited well in the Sunshine State. - Jamie Newberg

wyoming??? it doesn't matter, we're not printing national championship tee-shirts.

Good! If he is too dumb to see that he will get NFL type coaching at UT and be ahead of his peers upon leaving, then he is too dumb to play for Vols!!!

you didn't. you questioned his validity of being a worthy opponent on the recruiting trail. i equated it to wins on the field.

didn't they have a pretty good pro team in 1984?
bobbytodd writes:
Spurrier has proved he is a mid-tier lazy coach at best. Without having recruits between campus and the nearest golf course his winning percentage is not very good. He beats his QB's down mentally so they are too stressed to play well and it shows. The best part of SC coaching staff is now part of UT's. They are in big trouble unless Spurrier is willing to let the country club membership go. This is the best and I believe the last good batch of recruits they get.
cgbtn writes:
Monte's LBs are small and can drop back into deep pass coverage. Does anybody really think this guy could cover anybody 20-30-40 yds down field? Monte is not looking for Dick Butkus. We need players who will fit the system we will run -- it doesn't matter how many stars they have. The fat man had a lot of stars sitting on the bench watching losses. The KNS wants to call Mr Butkus, Richard. I guess his name is a bad word.
Down_The_Field writes:
No.
more than flar-duh less than ND.
so, z.....does grease head and his American turn greek player win tonight?
