Tennessee Titans football coach Jeff Fisher, who was scheduled to be the featured speaker at the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies Thursday, has cancelled in order to attend funeral services for former quarterback Steve McNair.
"Jeff Fisher cannot attend the Dinner & Induction Ceremony due to Steve McNair's funeral service in Nashville on Thursday, July 9," said Anna Beth Meccia, director of marketing and special events for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley in a press release. "He is however providing a video recorded for our audience of 1,200. Chad Pennington will also address the audience, Pat Summitt will be given the opportunity to make comments after being presented with her Thanks for the Memories Award, and Pat Ryan will speak on behalf of the Class of 2009."

What to say at a funeral for a former player who on the field was great and seemed to have a chairtible soul but was shot to death by his lover, 16 yra younger, while his wife and kids were in another state.

Dennis,
I suppose at your funeral they can talk about how perfect you were.
I dont for a second condone his actions while being brutally murdered, but your comment is asinine.
I bet for one thing, Jeff hugs his kids and tells them how much they are loved...that's what he'll say.

All true...but let he who is without sin cast the first stone...with that said what a sad turn of events...Steve was a great player and mentor to a lot of people...we all make bad choices in life...Steve made his and he paid for it with his life. Prayers to his family.

Who cares if he cheated on his wife? I'm not saying that in the sense that it's okay but the guy is gone now. Show some respect will you?
Cheating isn't all that uncommon anyways. There is a good chance your dad, mom, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins or friends have. My guess is the people degrading McNair don't do the same to their family or friends who have cheated. Why do it to someone who isn't with us any longer let alone someone you don't know? If he cheated on his wife, does it really affect your life in any way, shape or form?
Lastly, don't just assume. He wasn't divorced but the house he and his wife were living in has been up for sale. That could mean they are separated or it could just mean they were moving into another house. Then there is the possibility he and his wife had an open relationship or he could have just been cheating. We don't know all of the facts so don't just assume he was a cheater.
RIP Steve.

Well sadly this will destroy the legacy of an otherwise good man, but jeff fisher is a sleezeball who had the same kind of personal issues as the late mr mcnair. most likely the example this 'coach' set was one of the reasons that influenced this young man to make some of the choices that ended his life....
a truly sad affair.

Are you stupid? Jeff? are you trying to talk about McNair? Get his name right at least. Either way McNair did more for the community in Nashville and people than you ever will.

I agree with you, no ones knows what you would do unless you have been in their shoes. My prayers go out to both families.
