Tennessee fan blogs have been buzzing about the possibility of the Vols playing in black jerseys this fall.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton indicated that such a drastic change from the Vols’ traditional orange jerseys isn’t likely.
Hamilton wouldn’t say no to black jerseys, though he did say Tuesday that he doesn’t foresee Tennessee in black “anytime in the near or distant future.”
He also says the uniforms are ordered at least a year in advance of the season in which they will be worn, ruling out any changes made by coach Lane Kiffin to the 2009 season.
Hamilton says minor uniform decisions are made by the coach and equipment managers, but he’s included in major decisions.

Yeah lets do the black uniforms! Now all we have to do is put a big pumpkin on the front of our jerseys and we can be known as "Team Halloween". Black jerseys are ridiculous. I would love to see black shirts for one game. more importantly would love to see the all orange for the big games again! i wouldn't even mind an orange helmet to go with it. but atleast lets get some uniforms tht look like they were designed in this century. black trim on the numbers and some different trim on the pants. players want to look good in their uni's.

Only a Flor-Idiot wouldn't realize the NCAA requires the visiting team to wear white or the lighter color jersey. There are a few exceptions such as LSU wearing home white as the Tigers did so several years before the NCAA rule was passed.

The NCAA has actually rescinded the rule requiring one of the teams to wear white. If that's the case, UT should wear orange on the road as much as possible---starting at Florida

This would actually be in keeping with the olden days in which Tennessee always wore orange at all its games, even when playing Alabama. The NCAA eventually made UT wear white against the Tide in Birmingham, thus resulting in the white jerseys with the orange yokes (which eventually gave way to the present all white jersey).
