My first comment on this story was posted, but when I came back to the story later, my comment was gone. It was not "removed by staff", and it is unlikely anyone asked to have it removed, it was just simply not there. So, trying once more, I think CBP is getting what he deserves, but I will be disappointed with anything less than an outright SEC championship and making the NCAA Great Eight. He will likely never have a more experienced team with this much talent. If he gets more talented players, they will be less likely to stay four years. No more excuse of breaking in five new players, or not knowing what style this team plays best, or not knowing what each player does best. After next year, UK will likely be too much for anyone else in the SEC to handle, at least until Calipari gets them put on major probation.

No he is not overpaid. As a former student (Graduated in May) I can tell you that not only what he does for the young men is enough but the morale he boosts on campus and having him be our representative in many ways makes him more than deserving. Plus he is putting wins in the column that was empty before. I look for this year to be even more promising. He is a great coach and even more importantly a great person.

I think the raise comes to dollars and cents. After all, college sports is a business. The extra revenue we get with 20,000+ every game vs. the 12,000 we got before Pearl, along with the extra donations we get, justifies his salary. He is bringing in more extra revenue than he costs us.

Last year was disappointing, but before Pearl, we would have celebrated making the NCAA tourney even with the early exit. The fact that he is raised expetations is a good thing.

I believe most all Div 1 coaches are overpaid. Why is he worth 2M and the president is work 400K. Doctors and Scientist 100K - 250K range.

Also, why bother with a contract good for six years when it’s a redo it every year anyway. What's the point?

...and we set and complain about executive’s making 2- 3M.

You people are nuts. It was ridiculous for him to get his huge raise a few months back when the athletic director was terrified that Memphis would steal him and jumped before he knew the true facts. That enough was more than enough. To give him even more now is a joke. How much are you guys raises this year? I'll bet you didn't get 9% that was preceeded by who knows how much a few months ago.
All this for an under performing coach. Let's see, what did the team do last year? So, let's give this man a lot more money for a failure of a season. Most people that under perform have to worry about their jobs just being there. At desperate university....i mean UT. This coach is allowed to live off of one good season he had. Oh and during that one good season the team still crashed and burned ridiculously bad at the end of the season. Oh well, i'm sure he'll get you into the tournament this year won't he? Can we count on another sweet 16? With his big raises shouldn't you start to expect a bit more?
Vol basketball.....you can have it.

Memphis has reloaded. Should have another fine season.

Let Bruce decide what his salary should be...he is that good. If he needs more, fire Hamilton and hire me at...say...one third the amount. Any coach who doesn't win a national championship at least once every 6 years will be fired. Go Vols. What is UT's mission statement? Do they teach people to do things that might be used to improve all our lives now and in the future?...If this statement is out-of-line, and paying Athletic Directors 5 time the average faculty salary isn't...then EXCUUUUUSSSSSSSSEEEEEE MEEEE.

Everyone knows Pearl is overpaid but he has a lot of the fan base excited. I honestly believe he is one of the best salesmen ever. He has done so little, yet has so many backers. If Hamilton had not overpaid him so bad I would have hired him. lol!

Memphis has reloaded with retards again, we know. They are never going to recruit an actual student-athlete. They strive to win. Calapari, your idol, couldn't cheat his way to a championship. He couldn't even teach them that free-throws actually counted. If his players were smarter, they would have learned that and won a championship. Five stars athletically, minus two-star smarts. It has been proven. Again, their IQ's will get in their way and they will stump their toes again. Oh! We know that Memphis wanted Pearl. He went and talked to their athletic director and was told they didn't want any stinking 3-star students, they wanted 5-star, one and done flunkies. GO VOLS!!!

The ? is, what does He bring in. His carizma (attitude, intenseity, orange jackets) is a contributing factor to his worth.
We can all have a bad season or seasons, don't forget the team is the one on the floor and he can only manage the talent.
Bret Farve brought in so much money for the team, because of his down home attitude and great talent, he makes money even, when he falters.
Fans from every team, would love to have him play, even if only for one season, so they could see him in person, Pearl is the same type of commodity. There are always the jealous ones, who can't see thru their own shortcomings, to them I say, take up Hockey, 'cause your a Puck !
