FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge in Tennessee and will be on probation for three months.
Court records from show that Haynesworth, a former University of Tennessee standout, entered his plea Thursday morning in Franklin and is required to perform 25 hours of community service, make a $5,000 contribution to an organization that offers counseling to emergency responders and attend driving school.
The charge against the former Tennessee Titans player stem from a Dec. 13 incident in which prosecutors say Haynesworth tried to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median and was badly injured.
The Tennessean reported that Circuit Court Judge Jeff Bivins told Haynesworth that he hopes this will be a wake-up call to the NFL player that no one is infallible.

So did he cause the crash or had the driver already crashed?

Apparently his lawyer was not as good as the one who kept getting the charges dropped on McNair.

It is my understanding that his actions forced the driver into the retaining wall, leaving him disabled.

Is there a suspension coming his way from the commissioner as well? Shouldn't there be some kind of punishment for him?
grvol writes:
What a joke. $5,000.00 to him is like $50.00 for most. I've read the accident report and seen his driving record. His sorry a-- should be in jail.

Maybe it's just me, but this isn't a negative article about UT. Haynesworth left UT in 2002. That's 7 years ago. The statute of limitations on UT's responsibility for his behavior has run out. If I'm not mistaken, he played for 3 years at UT. I think 7 years exposure to the NFL environment would have more influence than 3 years college.

If he is such a hero, then why hasn't he gotten his mom off of living on 6th street in Hartsville, SC? Why hasn't he done something for his family there rather than going back a couple times a year to flash his wealth and new car? If you know anything about the town he comes from, then you will know exactly what I am referring to when I mention 6th street. I know....I lived there for over 20 years and saw first hand.....And saw first hand what he is trully about. Thank God, I am back in my home state of Tennessee for good.
As far as Travis goes, he needs to rot in jail for what he did.
On Donte....My jury is still out on him....But the verdict so far is not good.

This article had everything you needed Naffy. Why didn't you comment on Manning, Rogers, or even Bill Bates? I think they're good drivers.
CLEMSONVOL716WASBANNED writes:
Spencer,
You are right about the area his mother lives in. The area of 6th Street in Hartsville is infested with unsavory characters. You would think that he would want to get her into a more peaceful neighborhood.
My family moved to Hartsville over 40 years ago and I have always known that area rough neighborhood. Maybe one day, I will make it back home to Knoxville.

Yep....And just to show how wrong the original poster is in claiming him as "a hero"....Right before I got to moved back to Tennessee, his mom was still working on an assembly line in a local manufacturing plant just up the road from Hartsville. Now that is a real hero. On the flip side, if I were making a 100 million a year, my mom would never work another day in her life....And she certainly would be well taken care of.
Don't give up on getting back to Tennessee....It can happen. My job moved me there in '83 and now I got to move back with the same company. At least now I can spend more time with all my grandchildren.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
I agree with your basic point, Spencer, but Haynesworth doesn't make $100 million A YEAR. That is the nominal value of his entire new contract if all incentives are met, along with other such qualifications. His previous contract with the Titans wasn't chump change, however, and I just had to shake my head at Bob calling him a "hero". Then again, I usually just shake my head at his posts(;-P)!

yeah, and it's prolly not a good idea to say you've gotten 'too big for tennessee' either. this dude is A JOKE! ol' two-play haynesworth is dana stubblefield all over again, but in worse shape and not as tough. i just hope the titans don't take him back when he gets cut in three years. they did fine with him hurt. i used to love fat al, being a vol and titan fan, and i didn't blame him for taking the $100 mil, but that 'too big for tn' comment really made me think of him as a d-bag. break a leg, al. literally.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
Sorry, I meant to "credit" Vol_RobE for calling Haynesworth a "hero". I am idly curious as to what his criteria for "heroism" are, since I am not aware that Haynesworth fulfills any reasonable person's definition of heroism, but I surely won't worry about it.
spencer1989#206886 writes:
I completely understand that he doesn't make 100 million a year....I guess my typing fingers were too fast for my old age. But regardless, he makes plenty enough money and more than enough to do the things that I have pointed out. And....You would also thing he could have given back to the small town community that he came from....Like several other athletes have done. Just last week, I was in a hospital where an ex-Vol (still in the NFL) donated enough money to build a children's hospital wing on an outstanding hospital right outside his home town. As you can tell...I'm not a Hayneworth fan and never have been.
