Mississippi State running back arrested

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon was arrested over the weekend.

An arrest report from the Starkville Police Department says Dixon was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers found him intoxicated late Saturday night with two empty champagne bottles on the floorboard of his car.

Mississippi State spokesman Joe Galbraith says coach Dan Mullen is still trying to gather facts before deciding on disciplinary action and won’t comment yet.

The 21-year-old from Terry was recently named preseason second-team All-SEC and is the Bulldogs’ best returning offensive player.

He rushed for 869 yards and seven touchdowns to bring his career totals to 2,603 yards and a Mississippi State record 30 touchdowns.

HAHA! Nice work.

Too bad DollVol isn't here to give us the inside scoop on this story. I heard her husband is connected!

Hmmmm, Remind me again who mentored coach Dan Mullen for the past 10 years while at Florida, Utah and Bowling Green??? Discipline and teaching your QB not to cry on TV were just a few things Oscar Meyer never had a meeting about.

Well this will be handled in the following ways first a hard talking to will be given maybe a couple games suspension will be given and will stand till the first lose then a light slap on the wrist will be given, then playing time will be restored. Come on he is on of the best players on there team.

Best running back in the SEC, IMO. It was a mistake that could happen to anybody. Of course I don't condone such actions, but you would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't had a few drinks and gotten behind a wheel. Don't expect Dixon to miss any games because of this. Maybe 1-2 max, but doubtful. On a Side Note, Miss. State police are now allowed to set up road blocks anywhere on campus. No doubt in my mind this is how Dixon was caught. Absolutely nothing goes on in Starkville except MIPs and DUIs, the State Police Forces bread and butter.

somehow this will be a secondary violation for Kiffin...according to ESPN.

Hate it that these kids keep getting in trouble, but I am so pleased the new staff seems to be keeping our kids out of trouble for the moment (and the last 7 months, really).

Just another young man making a mistake..He will get a lot of lip from the coaching staff and maybe that is all it will take./.Again all this is just a young man making a bad decision..he will pay the price I am sure.

First of all, there is a huge difference in a few drinks and two bottles. Second, we should all hope State does well so when Saban leaves, bama will hire Mullen and they can be called "Mullen's Mullets"!!! GO VOLS!!!

It was not his fault!! No one told him he could not drink and drive. Surely you can not expect everyone to know that drinking and driving is against the law.
They are young men, we can't expect them to be responsible adults just because there has be a media push for over 2 decades about the dangers of driving drunk. Just because 68% of all driving related deaths are do to intoxication why should we expect this young man to be responsible?
Just beacuse time and time again college athletes have be in the news for being drunk or under the infulence while driving how could anyone expect this kid to know it was wrong?
Just how stupid are the above statements?
We keep excusing idoits for being idoits when there is no excuse!
After all the penelty for such a thing by just about any coaches standard will be a couple of games supension (usually the first couple of games when most teams like to schedule patsey teams). Why should he be afraid of what his actions will cost him? The courts will just fine him and make him pick up some trash along the street.
When the punishment is never is greater than the risk why should this kid or any other in the same situation think twice about their actions.
