Pearl's USA team beats Argentina 97-89

Coach Bruce Pearl and Maccabi USA bounced back Monday with a 97-89 basketball win over Argentina to advance to the medal round at the World Maccabiah Games in Netanya, Israel.

The USA team suffered a 73-71 loss to Russia on Sunday but can still win the gold medal after going 3-1 in pool play.

Dan Grunfeld led the USA squad Monday with 25 points. Todd Golden added 22. Tennessee junior Steven Pearl had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

"This was an incredibly physical basketball game,'' Bruce Pearl said. "I'm really proud of our guys for the way they played and the toughness they showed.

"There were multiple technical fouls, but we stayed poised. If we continue to maintain our focus, good things will keep happening for us.''

Glad they are doing well but, would much rather him be recruiting instead of coaching a team in another country.I know it is a great honor for him but, landing and keeping some prize recruits that have a possibility to make a deep run in the tourny is what he is paid to do.I know you can't make all kids do what you want them to but,you also can't be letting everybody on the planet have access to them to change their mind either(without being in touch with them as much as the NCAA allows).

P.S.This is in no way a slam on CBP because I think he is one of the best things to happen to Tennessee basketball in the last couple decades.

It's simple...UT can't pay college athletes; Kensucky can.

Glad Steven Pearl is filling up the stat sheet.
