Despite rampant media and fan speculation this summer that Tennessee might wear black jerseys this fall, new Tennessee football coach Kiffin said he had hardly given it a thought.
“There’s so much to do,” Kiffin said Tuesday. “I don’t think a uniform has anything to do with whether you win or lose.”
Kiffin said he heard a report that he was changing UT’s jerseys to black because that was his favorite color. Not so, said the former Oakland Raiders coach who is still in a contract squabble with owner Al Davis after a messy firing last fall.
“If you watched the last two years of my life, you probably realized I don’t like black,” Kiffin joked.
UT athletic director Mike Hamilton joined in on the fun.
“That’s kind of become an inside joke with our staff,” Hamilton said. “No change there.”

enough already with the talk of changing uniforms....the orange jersey, white helmet, white pants and black shoes make up one of the true classic college football uniforms in the country....if anything needs to change with uniforms, take the black out of the basketball and baseball unifroms....black is not a school color

If it isn't broke don't fix it!!!

Well it actually is the 1 of the original jersey colors.

STAY WITH TRADITIONAL COLORS....NO WAY THE ALUM WILL TOLERATE ANY BLACK UNIFORMS...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....you are such a pathetic joke.

Our Alum base could use a kick in the pants. Many are too old and too stuck in old ways. I'm all for tradition and not especially for the black jersey's, however the Alums need to remember what its like to be a student at games and get loud and make Neyland back into one of the hardest places to play in the Nation. I realize that the product put on the field inspires a lot of that getting into it, but even when we have been decent the crowd seems content to sit on there butts and do nothing. Trust me, crowds can inspire the team and lead to victory on occasion. It happens at basketball games all the time. I hope the Alums including myself are ready for a pumped up stadium and rap music blaring to jack the team and students up. The ol' folk are going to have to start crankin that solja boy soon whether they like it or not.

Witchie, you do realize that Zaboubooboo is going around taking credit for the 3-skull necklace don't you? He's even stringing the bones in a Z pattern as a branding logo. I saw your Mom at West Town hawking them for him asking for cash and replacement feathers. I didn't bite but there were several takers. Sorry dude; I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

just put the orange pants back on the road like at ucla and thats all the change we need to make. and changing the helmets to orange is the most moronic idea ever.

Is it possible somemight be confusing black with navy? Hard to tell the difference except in bright light.
Agreed, they played closer to brown lately...

Can we request the tear away jerseys? Stanley and Condredge used to go through 4 or 5 of those per game.

I think UT’s uniform is one of the very recognizable uniforms in the country the way it is. Matter of fact, some high schools copy UT’s uniform scheme and some other colleges are copying our end-zone pattern. So don’t change a thing.
CapitolC writes:
BS fad and Ill-conceived idea. Black jerseys ?
Be serious. Why in the H would we ever want to copy Athens or any other pseudo-football tradition ?
If for some unknown reason we institute any black unis, I will personally buy one just to burn it in public and send the ashes back to Knox Vegas.

Black jerseys wouldn't bother me that much. I'm probably one of the few but as long as it was a "once a year" type deal, I wouldn't mind.
I also think changing the helmets to Orange with a White Power T would look good. UK did it a few years ago and it turned out to be a nice look. Most people would disagree with me, but that's ok.
I'd be willing to say most of the younger generation is more open to changing the color scheme than the Baby Boomers. However, the Baby Boomers are the ones who make the large donations to the University so I doubt there will be any major changes any time soon.

No black. Next thing you know we'll be another one of these lame schools trying to do a stupid black-out. Every Saturday in Knoxville is an Orange-out. I don't know why that has never gotten any media coverage from GameDay. If anything, add more Orange. Orange and White. That's UT.
Volunatic writes:
Hamilton is the one who wants to change UT's school color from Big Orange to black, not Kiffin.
The seats in TBA are now black, the baseball uniforms have more black than orange, and I'm pretty sure I saw Hamilton driving around in a black Mercedes the other day. (With as much as that guy is making from UT, he should get it painted the loudest shade of orange available in car paint.)

Smurf turf seems to be working pretty well for Boise St, though.
Maybe UT needs Big Orange grass.

It is broke and that's why we have a new coach. Black is in and I plan on buying a black jersey to weigh in on the referendum.

Keep the uniforms the way they are. Orange & white at home, all white with the black cleats on the road. Looks good. Very old school. Just get the players wearing it to play better.

I agree completely...

I agree with bringing back the orange pants on the road... trimming the orange jerseys with black outline around the white numbers would make them easier to read.

Get rid of the NCAA rule that requires white jerseys on the road. Nobody has black and white TVs anymore.

Agree. The Tennessee Tradition is Orange and White. IMO if black was part of the school colors..that would be different..for example South Carolina's colors are Garnet and Black.
