Wide receiver Joshua Reese is hearing from Tennessee's new recruiter at Miami (Fla.) Central High School.
Offensive lineman Jose Jose, who's committed to UT, recently transferred from Booker T. Washington to Miami Central.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Reese said he's heard plenty about the Vols from his new teammate.
"He tells me how things are and what's going on up there," Reese said of Jose. "He talks about how it'd be fun to go up there and play."
Reese said he's considering UT along with Florida, Florida State, Arkansas, West Virginia and Central Florida.
He said he's had little contact with UT's coaching staff but plans to get in touch with running backs coach Eddie Gran, who's in charge of recruiting Miami Central.
Reese said he hopes to take an official visit to UT this fall to learn more about the Vols.
He said his only information on UT's campus has come from Jose.
"He said they keep it real and what they tell you is how everything is going to go," Reese said. "He said it's a good town and everything is around football, which is good."
UT still has plenty of time to recruit Reese. He said he doesn't plan to choose a school until the end of his senior season.
UT's success recruiting Reese could depend on the quarterback search for the 2010 class.
Reese said he will factor in each team's strength at quarterback.
"I pay attention to that a lot," he said.
California Love: Linebacker Josh Shirley from Kaiser High in Fontana, Calif., hasn't narrowed his list of schools but is strongly considering UT.
Along with the Vols, Shirley's offer list includes Southern Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame and Miami.
The 6-3, 220-pound Shirley said he'll likely wait until this fall to decide which schools to officially visit.
UT appears to be in good position for a trip from Shirley.
"They're a very good candidate," he said.
Holding On: Dominique Easley is still considering UT, but the Vols have some ground to make up.
The 6-3, 265-pound defensive end from Curtis High in Staten Island, N.Y., said Florida, Miami and Oregon top his list of schools.
Easley said UT and Georgia are two other schools he's keeping in mind.
UT is helped by the fact it's a member of the SEC.
"That's my favorite conference," Easley said. "It has the majority of the country's best talent."
There might not be much time left to recruit Easley, who said he'd like to choose a school by the end of August.
Going Elsewhere: Several UT targets committed to other schools in recent days.
Defensive tackle Garrison Smith from Douglass High in Atlanta decided to stay in state and commit to Georgia.
Defensive end Corey Miller from Byrnes High in Duncan, S.C., committed to Florida State.
Miller participated in UT's summer camp on June 1.
Cornerback Tyler Stephenson from Lancaster (Texas) High committed to Baylor over offers from UT, LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon.
Cornerback Kacy Rodgers from Carroll High in Southlake, Texas, committed to Miami.
Rodgers' father, Kacy Rodgers Sr., played defensive end for UT from 1988-91.
Rodgers Sr. is the defensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins.
