Scroggins now says he'll announce Thursday

Quarterback Jesse Scroggins was expected to announce his college decision Wednesday.

However, Scroggins' myspace page late Tuesday indicates the announcement will be made Thursday.

The 17-year-old's status update says "jus bcuz it says im goin some place...not even a chance it means its true...jus stay tunned..announcing thursday at noon...it changed... 3 eastern 12 pacific on ESPN."

The Lakewood (Calif.) High School star is deciding between Tennessee, Southern California and Florida. Recent speculation has centered around Scroggins committing to USC.

And he has also already made his decision. According to a talk show in Chatt he has already told Kiffin he will go to USC. This link from volnation pretty much says it all.

I have faith in our staff of professional recruiters. We are still in the hunt for Jesse's signature. If he wants to play a long and successful career then he needs to sign with the Vols. Ma and Pa Scroggins if you can hear me please convince your talented son to come and play some SEC football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Convince Jesse to live life at the fullest and take chances that he will not forget I can assure you. Jesse can earn a remarkable degree and have a stellar career as a Tennessee Volunteer. God bless you all and please Lord guide Jesse Scroggins to Knoxville to wear orange and white loud and proud. Go Vols!!!!!

I agree that there are a lot of drama queens out there, but I think some of these kids get a bad rep due to the pushing and pulling they get from everyone else. Mama says "Go here", Coach says "No, go here", his girl says "Don't go there, stay here". These kids, and I stress the word kids, can't make these decisions alone. Everyone who cares at all for them has an opinion. I don't get surprised when they move an announcement date/time. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jesse in Orange next fall, either. GO VOLS!!!

I hope he goes to USC because he will be nothing but a distraction to the team and split the fan base because he is or isn't the starting QB.

USC or UT..God please just not Florida!

DenverVol writes:

Y'all calling him a drama queen is definitely uncalled for and out of line. My guess is it got rescheduled to Thursday because that was the only time ESPN could fit the announcement in. As much as we're making a big deal out of this, I doubt ESPN is going to bump something from their schedule so this kid can tell the world where he's going to college. In all reality it's not "that" important. If anything, he comes across like any other 17 year old kid if you ask me. As much as I would love him to come be a Vol, it's not the end all be all if he doesn't. There will be others, I promise you. Now if he goes to the Gators over us and USC, well...

pj_ladyvolnMI writes:

When he says,"jus bcuz it says im goin some place...not even a chance it means its true...jus stay tunned.", it sounds like he's refuting statements out there...which all say USC. I sure hope that's what he means, as long as that's good news for us.

I agree 100%. When a kid's giving out announcement times on ESPN, to me, that says it all. I hope he goes to USC. Let's find a good cornbread and bean fed Southern boy who knows what the SEC is all about!

If he talks like that he can go to USC.
I think that UT will end up signing a quarterback in this class that is currently committed to another school and that is better than Scroggins. Remember Brown was committed to Miami, Richardson to Florida, and Jackson to LSU this team last year and they all chose UT.

First, Scroggins puts off his decision, to get it away from other players' decisions on where to go to school.
Then, he moves it yet one MORE day away.
This dude is stuck on himself and wants to be the center of attention. He also seems to have an inferiority complex, when it comes to making decisions and getting on with his life. If he's THIS indecisive in life, he will be indecisive on the field.

WE REALLY DO NOT NEED A PLAYER WHO IS SNOBBY, STUCK-ON-HIMSELF, AND INCAPABLE OF MAKING QUICK DECISIONS.

USC and UT are similar systems (pro-style). Florida is a somewhat different. I look for him to go to USC and ride the pine for a few years. If he came here he probably would have a good chance to play and play soon. But its not the end of the world.

Scroggins said the reason he wanted to announce on ESPN was to help the college he was choosing with recruiting. We all know that USC and Florida don't need any help at this time. So if he doesn't pick UT (which I doubt he will) then we know he had other motives for wanting it to be on ESPN.

You are very very confused. This is not a quick decision. This is probably the biggest choice he has had to make so far in his life. There is pressure coming at him from all sides. Did you ever think what the relationship between he and his father might be like if he chooses UT. He is unsure of everything right now because he is a 17 year old child. You want this child to make a quick decision on the rest of his life just to satisfy your curiosity. You need to get a firm grip on reality and let this process run its course. He wont be able to play for UT until 2010. So there is plenty of time for this child to decide where he is going to take the first step into HIS future. Hopefully it is with the VOLS, if not, lets all wish him the best and focus on finding someone that does want to wear the orange and white.

IMO, Scroggins wants to announce on Thursday so the print media will have this article blasted all over the country's papers on Friday. He wants to give Tennessee massive exposure and positive spin heading into the SEC media room Friday afternoon.
Or its a huge black eye and 30 minutes of the same question asked 50 different ways.

My perhaps overly-optimistic take on it is that he has delayed his announcement until Thursday precisely in order to give CLK a boost going into his Media Days appearance. With all the good things Scroggins has had to say about UT up to this point, I just don't think he would delay his announcement just to stab CLK in the back before his first appearance before all the national media. Of course, I suppose it is possible that it never crossed his mind what affect turning UT down in such a way would have on CLK and the program, but I just doubt he would do it on purpose. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit, but I surely hope not. For now (crosses fingers!), I think this is a sign he will pick the Vols!

If Scroggins wants a presser just because he thinks it will help recruiting for his selected school, then logic says he will pick UT. After all, SC & FL are rich with QB's that are considered better than Scroggins. Recruits have already been selecting those 2 schools on the basis of those QB's. Given our known QB struggles, we're the only one of the three schools for which such an announcement would logically have a recruiting impact.

If you mean the school's website, they can't say anything about him - he's a recruit and it's a violation for a school or one of its reps to talk about recruits. Check UT's official site - no doubt there are no comments about him either. If you mean their equivalent to GoVolsXtra, then that's a different story. It's a newspaper's site and not an official school site so they (and we) can post about it all we want....

I tend to agree Lifer, I think/hope he and CLK cooked this up together to make a big splash during SEC media days. But NSD is along way away and if we have a good year, who knows, he may have company come NSD. If Crompton or Stephens have a break out year or an above average year, there will be other QB's that jump ship to join the Vols.

After reading that ESPN article, Scroggins says the most important factor is comfortability and what better place to be comfortable than at home. He is going to USC. Still got Nick for another year and Kiffin will end up with "his" quarterback for the 2011 class. Definitely no reason to panic. Another wildcard is UT's performance on the field this year. If they come out with a new attitude and surprise some people, we may have some recruits taking another look.

I still have my hopes up that he will be a Vol. He's really good, and would be a great catch for UT, both as a player and in helping with further recruiting.
If he announces USC, then UT's best hope is that some top QB's mind will change during the season when they see how much the coaching staff has improved the current Vol QBs. (I do think we will see vast improvement from either Jon or Nick this season.)

utwick writes:

Hopefully this isn't shades of Terrelle Pryor. Jesse knows, but he isn't telling. USC and Florida might be disappointed, but the Vols faithful are in position to have their hearts ripped out again. But anyway, the camera crews are still here, let's make them squirm a little longer. I honestly would not be surprised if tomorrow he says that he will announce on the 25th as previously reported. Hang in there Vols, we will rise again (and hopefully with JS at QB). I have to go say another prayer now.
