The United States U19 women's basketball team lost its opener to Spain 90-86 in the FIBA World Championship on Thursday in Bangkok, Thailand.
The U.S. trailed by 17 points in the first half. Incoming UT freshman Taber Spani was 1-for-7 from the field including 0-for-3 from 3-point range in 24 minutes. The 6-1 guard from Lee's Summit, Mo., was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line to finish with five points. She added five rebounds and one steal.
The U.S. continues preliminary round play against China today.
