COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley said Thursday that guard Monique Willis of Savannah, Ga., will not join the Gamecocks and instead will attend a junior college.
Willis had been charged in a shoplifting incident last April. She reached a plea agreement Wednesday with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office and was sentenced to four years probation. The county’s online records showed that Willis also agreed to pay $2,245.66 in damages.
Willis still faces a court date on charges of armed robbery and weapons possession.
Staley said that after talking with Willis and her family, it was thought best for her to play elsewhere until all her legal matters are done.
