Spani scores 11 for U.S.

In a game in which every available player scored, including five who hit for double digits, the U.S. U19 women's basketball team defeated winless Mali 100-38 on Saturday to close FIBA World Championship preliminary round play in Bangkok, Thailand.

The U.S. (2-1) advances to second round play as the No. 2 seed out of Group D and will face Canada (2-1), the second-ranked team from Group C, on Monday.

UT signee Taber Spani scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range, in 20 minutes. The guard also had four rebounds.

I'm not sold on the format. Seems to me women's sports, namely, basketball is being shoved to the back burner on gvx. There has not been a decent article on the subject all summer.

Oh sure, football and Tim Tebow IS WHAT'S HAPPENING, but I'm interested in what's happening in other arenas. Could we not have more than a few snippets on women's basketball? Why do we have to wait until November to see some news on the '09-'10 Lady Vols?
