Can UT make OL Leifheit's top five list?

All the coaches are full of energy and they're always running around," Leifheit said. "I think they're going to win a lot of games there.

Tennessee will know this weekend if its still in the running for T.J. Leifheit.

That's when the 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman from Hoggard High School in Wilmington, N.C., will trim his list of schools from seven to five.

Leifheit said he's considering UT, Florida, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Florida State and Southern Cal.

"I'm probably going to go with the schools that I have the best relationships with the coaches and I feel the most comfortable with," Leifheit said.

UT's coaching staff has developed a nice relationship with Leifheit.

He said he speaks to quarterbacks coach David Reaves and tight ends and tackles coach James Cregg "almost every other day."

Leifheit, who attended UT's Orange and White Game on April 18, said he was impressed by the work ethic of UT's coaching staff.

"All the coaches are full of energy and they're always running around," Leifheit said. "I think they're going to win a lot of games there."

Leifheit will graduate early and enroll in college in January with the hopes of playing early.

Leifheit said UT's staff has told him the Vols need offensive linemen who can contribute immediately.

"They talked to me about coming in and playing left tackle," Leifheit said. "Since I'm graduating early they've talked to me about having the opportunity to come in and start as a freshman."

Leifheit said his eventual goal is to develop into an NFL player. He said all seven teams on his list should give him that opportunity.

"I think I can reach the NFL through any of them," Leifheit said.

Trash Talk: UT's rivalry with Florida became even more heated when the Vols signed Nu'Keese Richardson and Marsalis Teague on National Signing Day.

Both wide receivers had been committed to Florida before they changed their decisions.

UT is hoping for similar results with Jonathan Dowling, but changing his mind could prove to be more difficult.

The 6-3, 178-pound safety from Southeast High in Bradenton, Fla., has been committed to Florida since February.

Dowling told The Orlando Sentinel that most schools stopped recruiting him when he committed to the Gators. UT was not one of those teams.

"I still get a lot of letters from Tennessee, but I just throw them in the trash," he said.

Camp Out: Tavadis Glenn won't likely be choosing Florida if the Gators offer him a scholarship.

Glenn, who's committed to Miami, was kicked out of Florida's Friday Night Lights camp last week for flashing a University of Miami sign.

Glenn, an offensive lineman from Raines High in Jacksonville, Fla., told The Orlando Sentinel he had been taunted by Florida players throughout the camp.

Glenn said he flashed the Miami sign after successfully covering a defensive lineman.

Glenn said a Florida assistant coach, whose name he didn't know, booted him from the camp.

"He told me to get out the camp, that this is not a Miami camp," said Glenn, who paid $35 to attend the camp. "He told me to take that (expletive) down there. I was like 'Huh?' I only did it once."

Another witness told the Orlando Sentinel that Glenn flashed the sign a second time.

Glenn attended Terry Parker High in Jacksonville last year but was dismissed from the team during the 2008 season for "not obeying administrative rules," according to Terry Parker coach Larry Reed.

As Tennessee fans we loved that your coach overreacted and kicked an eighteen year old kid out of their camp for flashing a Miami sign. I am sure kids will want to consider playing somewhere or anywhere else with more tolerance. Wow, if you can be kicked out of a UF camp for something as ridiculous as this, be careful when one of the coaches pulls your scholarship for something even more inane. Maybe you can make it a UF marketing campaign "Flash another teams sign and we will kick you out on your behind". I am sure you are so proud! LOL Thats okay all the kids are welcome at UT.

I know we need a quarterback, but, I think we need offensive linemen as much, or more so. Lane and company can promise them early playing time if they do the work. There will be a great oppurtunity for some offensive linemen in Knoxville the next few years. I think Lane will pull in some pretty good OL's this class. They would have nothing but oppurtunity in front of them. GO VOLS!!!

You just changed the facts. The kid admitted he made the sign once not "incessantly". I believe our staff and other staffs across the country would warn him not to repeat the act and the kid would listen, understand and stop. It is called communication from coaches to players. I am sure this happens from time to time at camps all over the country and kids are not kicked out of the camp. They are warned and the event doesn't happen again. Remember these kids are only eighteen and not yet mature adults. Young kids need guidance not the boot. Based on the article, it appears the coach overreacted and was a overly heavy handed. By the way, this is not good publicity for Florida. I am sure Meyer has had a word with Strong regarding this matter to ensure he doesn't do this again.

Under your scenario, if the kid performed the act incessantly then yes, I would hope the coaches would kick the kid out of the camp. However that is not what happened here.

Voluvr writes:

T.J. and Stone would be bookends blocking for the best RB's in the country. That extra year or two of playing time early on would mean light years to their development under this staff. They would be millionaires in 3 years.

At some of the other schools on the list they would be getting their first start in 3 years or on a team that is far from the national spotlight.

Voluvr writes:

DC I don't agree. I don't believe this kind of thing happens across the country. The majority of the kids are respectful and I would think most big time prospects are likely showing neutrality towards any commitments.

With the knowledge this kid got kicked off his h.s. team for not following rules, which doesn't mean one offense, this kid would be big trouble. Meyer should applaud Strong's actions. The last thing that Meyer need too is arrest #25.

A hot shot like that will end up off on UM's team within a year or so anyway and be pumping gas with all the USC graduates.

So the assistant coach apparently allowed that to take place without a problem but the reaction deserved expulsion?? Kinda sounds hypocritical...maybe flashing the Miami sign was wrong but the preceding taunts should have never been allowed either...not exactly a formula for converting campers to your school...but JMO

How do you afford that high-priced spread?

We have to save up for Killian's Red and then fall back onto Bud Lite by game time.

The opener, however, may be a Bloody Mary morning.

You are SO right! Right now, the prospect of a thin, young OL in 2010 is a big reason we haven't gotten commitments from the top QBs this recruiting season, IMHO. That is also the main reason I don't expect a smooth, steady rise to the top under CLK. I believe in him and the staff, but I would not be surprised if our record in 2010 isn't as good as this year's.

Actually, meyer already has to deal with arrest # 25 (Doe). No telling when # 26 will happen, but the smart money is on "REALLY soon".

The Miami sign, I believe, is putting the index finger and thumb of both hands together and making a "U", as in the University of Miami. A friend of mine showed me at the UT/Miami game in 2002 that the best comeback for that is to use your middle fingers instead of index fingers and flash it back to them. He called it the "FU"

Tennessee has only 2 outright National titles: 1951 & 1998
The others were awarded before the bowl games were played by other news outlets (Litkenhouse, Dunkel, etc., etc.) And of those 4 titles, Tennessee won 1 bowl game (1938 over Oklahoma)
By the way, in 1939, the year that Tennessee went undefeated and unscored upon, who snatched the National Championship from under the grasp of the General?
That's right.

Yep. I know what you're thinking... he isn't the number 1 running back because he hasn't even suited up for a game yet. By this time next year, though...... :-)

From what I have seen recently from Tennessee against the PAC-10, they would rather stay in the SEC. 1-2 record, including 2 straight to Cal and UCLA respectively. Granted Cal was in the Top 15 in '07, there was no excuse for the UCLA debacle. That game should have been over in the 1st quarter. Once Tennessee was up 14-7 at the half, they should've ran it up in the second half. But they didn't.

Ooh, a band-aid for that exposed nerve? I would've thought Tennessee fans would welcome debates on forums. Everyone loves to talk about how good their beloved team is but when one person, or several, chime in and remind them that they are not good, they complain that life isn't fair and don't want to reside in reality because the girl they're married to isn't pretty like she is in their dream.
DON'T TAZE ME, BRO!!!!!!!!!!

Then why bother getting on here? If you can "afford" Volquest, then by all means get on there and bray it up with the rest of the sheep. I have been on here for quite a while and there have been sundry others on here that do not share the same point of view as you. This is a place where fans can come together and talk about the Vols, whether they like them or not. Otherwise they would not allow fans of other teams on here to discuss their point of view. I believe I have touched a nerve with you because you have taken a lot of time and effort in your retort and the swinging of your judgmental pendulum. The real fans show their true colors of the love of their team by pointing out facts that would have otherwise gone unnoticed by the ill-informed. Banter like this is what keeps fans of particular teams hungry and yearning for the upcoming season.
