Climer: Controversies serve to intensify SEC football

Yes, sir, all the SEC football coaches are on alert.

They've been told, in no uncertain terms, that there is no room for all this back-and-forth sniping. It's unbecoming of an upper-crust conference. It's bad for the league's image.

Keep it up, mister, and there will be heck to pay.

If you really believe this, you probably think Mississippi State is favored in the SEC West. Really, now, did CBS and ESPN pony up all those millions just because the SEC plays the best college football in the nation, week after week, year after year?

It is easier to talk than to put a winning program on the field. Old ball coach has learned this lesson. Shortly we will see how well this staff coaches with the players they have. Go Vols

Still feeling nostalgic: How about the Tori Noel hit on the Bama receiver in 95?

I have a sweet tooth for the talking. I don't do it personally, but I like to see it. Entertainment is where you find it. Now let's play some ball!

A famous long-gone Tide coach once said, "Somewhere in the 3rd quarter, emotion wears out and talent takes over".

If we can get some C+ to B- QB play, things could get interesting this fall. Also seperating WR's and continued solid defense could have the band playing their favorite tune.

Kicking game must improve.

How many days, gerryop?

ESPN/ABC execs are not crazy. They are anti-UT, but not crazy. This is their chance to hit the grand slam. The now have rights to broadcast games coached by the "Howard Stern" of college football.

That's right, CLK, is the NCAA version of Howard Stern. Either you love him or you hate him, there is not much room for other feelings. If you love CLK and UT, you will want to watch the VOLS pull off miracle win after miracle win this season. If you are a CLK hater, you want to see the mouthy little brat get his butt kicked for 60 minutes on Saturday.

Either way, that means you watch ESPN/ABC. More viewers mean more $$ for the network. Love him or hate him, CLK is a good thing for the networks bank account.

Not near as controversal as Stern but other than that I agree with you.

A tempest in a teapot. Urban probably could give a rat's azz what CLK said, but relishes what it does for his team. I'm with PD (above). Jumping around, chestbumps, hype, etc. wear off after someone hits you in the grill. (Same thing for uniform changes) It's all about planning, execution, physicality, and desire. The rest may be fun for the fans, but has little to do with the outcome. Tee it up and whip the guy across from you.

I guess they favor the "flashy" conferences where teams put up a lot of points and display they type of offense that puts people in seats. The SEC has 4 top tier teams (Florida, LSU, Alabama, & Georgia) as compared to the Big 10 (Penn State & Ohio State), Pac-10 (USC), Big XII (Texas & Oklahoma), ACC (Virginia Tech), and Big East (West Virginia & Louisville). There is parity in the SEC. The team that wins the SEC one year doesn't usually win it the second year. In the other conferences, especially the Pac-10 where the champion is typically USC, the teams that win that conference are supposed to win it. And don't get me started in Virginia Tech. The only reason why they're picked to win by ESPN is because they have fallen under the spell of "Beamer-Ball". What is that? Every time I see them play a team worth a phooey, they get their azz handed to them (and Alabama will run it up on them this year in Atlanta. Saban is on a 2 game losing streak and the players aren't happy about that. They have to take it out on somebody).

Wouldn't it be great if HBO or another cable outlet would "mike up" some of the SEC coaches during practice or games for a whole season?? Now that would be controversial!! Wonder how many "violations" would occur?!?

ESPN has a bias against the SEC???? Ok some of you really need to pay more attention to what goes on before making stupid comments like this. ESPN just paid out billions for rights to cover the SEC. They are part holders in the SEC network that will launch this fall. If anything ESPN will be kissing up to the SEC because it only benifits them, not ripping them down.

Believe you are thinking about the '97 game when he crushed Shaun Alexander on a pass out of the backfield.

How about when L. Little blasted Burgdorf (probably misspelled, who cares) That was freaking classic.

And the ball stayed in mid air for a few seconds then fell straight to the ground. He hit him that hard. As John Ward said, "Burgdorf is BLASTED by Leonard Little!"
