U.S. House honors Summitt

WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives on Friday unanimously passed a resolution introduced by Rep. John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-Tenn.) congratulating Pat Summitt for achieving her 1000th victory as Tennessee women's basketball coach.

Summitt notched No. 1000 on Feb. 5, beating SEC rival Georgia.

"I have known Coach Summitt for many years and could not be prouder of her and what she has done for the University of Tennessee," said Duncan. "While she has produced exceptional athletes, many of whom have gone on to coach or play in the WNBA, she prides herself on the academic and personal achievements of her players. The dedication and hard work of Coach Summitt, her assistants, support staff, and, of course, players have made the Lady Vols an extraordinary organization."

Summitt's career record stands at 1005-193 (.840).

Few people in sports deserve recognition as much as Coach Summitt does. When you combine what she's meant to athletics in general off the court in addition to winning games, she is truly special. She not only wins, but she demands more from her young ladies off the court. A class act all the way. Congrats Coach Summitt you truly deserve all the accolades you receive.

Well deserved accolades. I believe she also has a 100% graduation rate for her players. A truly remarkable achievement.

Congrats Pat and I agree the government finally got it right but what I love is graduation rate she has. I hope she comes back with a championship next year and if those ladys will do as she says they have a good chance. Again congrats Pat and keep up the good job.

Don't leave out that piece of trash Mike, you know she is crying her eyes out since Pat is being honored again.

Hey: Congratulations are most assuredly in order to honor this legendary record-setting leader of young athletes. This is a positive proclamation of what UT LV fans already knew. Glad to see Coach Summitt get her national recognition. Finally Congress gets away from bail outs!
