MEMPHIS - Former University of Tennessee guard Chris Lofton was among free agents taking part in a tryout session Monday for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Lofton appears as if he's finally in more control of his destiny.
The SEC's all-time 3-point shooter overcame a battle with testicular cancer after being diagnosed in March of 2007 following his junior year.
He's cancer free and feeling confident about his basketball career.
"It brought me down a little bit with fatigue," Lofton said of the bout with cancer. "But I'm healthy. I feel good right now. The year in Turkey helped me out."
The 6-2 guard's stint in Turkey last year was marked by a scoring average of 20 points per game, which included a league-record 61-point outburst.
Lofton isn't likely to go off like that in the Grizzlies' free-agent camp.
But his mentality was like each of the 30 other session participants -- well-known or not: There's a strong belief that a serious impression can be made.
