Tony White Jr. can't wait to come home and play on the big stage this fall at Thompson-Boling Arena.
White, former Bearden High School star and a rising senior at College of Charleston, will apparently get that chance when the Cougars play at Tennessee this coming season.
UT's schedule has not been announced, but sources confirmed to the News Sentinel that the game is scheduled for Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
"Hopefully I'll get a good meal with my family the day before and try to play a good game against the Vols," White said Wednesday night after Richardson Construction lost to First Tennessee 119-117 in the Rocky Top League at Bearden.
It will be White's first college game at UT, although he's played with and against many of the Vols in the Rocky Top League.
"I'm really excited," the 6-foot point guard said. "It's always fun. I'm just glad I'll get a chance to play in front of my friends and family who I grew up with."
White is averaging 10.6 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in his career at College of Charleston.
Last season, White was the team's second-leading scorer (12.0 ppg) and led the team in assists with 98 (2.7 per game) and was second in 3-pointers with 71 (39 percent). He shot 82.8 percent from the free-throw line and set a school record by making 30 consecutive from the line.
White's father, Tony White Sr., was a star guard for the Vols from 1983-87.
White, who is fifth in career scoring at Bearden (1,706 points), has confidence he can play with anybody in college ball.
"It's no doubt in my mind I can," he said. "I feel I can hang with anybody in the NCAA. Division I is Division I, it doesn't matter if it's mid-major or high major. The goals are the same, points are scored the same way."
UT guard Josh Tabb, a teammate of White's for Richardson Construction, likes White's game.
"Tony's a great shooter, a hard-nosed kid," Tabb said. "He comes out and competes. He can come out and hit five in a row on you quick."

I loved Sr. in the 80s and I have been impressed with the few games I've seen Jr. play. After watching him lead CoC in the SoCon tourney last year I'm surprised his scoring average is that low.

He might have been a good addition to the big orange, but Oglesby was a flat out whiff by Pearl and his staff.

I LOVED watching Sr at U.T. & wish Jr. had of gotten a chance to play there, but he has done well at CofC. I hope you do well in the game Jr., but GO VOLS!

Well, those happen. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
