The one-time image of Nashville as a non-sports community has undergone a dramatic change in the past decade, thanks largely to the arrival of the Nashville Predators and Tennessee Titans.
Throw in the emergence of the Music City Bowl, a 30-plus year run by the Nashville Sounds and the landscape looks quite different than it did in the 1950s and '60s.
Just how significantly the city has changed as a sports destination was reinforced on Wednesday when the SEC selected the Nashville Sports Council to host its women's basketball tournaments in 2011 and 2012 and men's basketball tournament in 2013.
Nashville will be host of an SEC or NCAA tournament for five consecutive years, beginning with the SEC men's tournament next spring and culminating with the NCAA Women's Final Four in 2014.
