DeMarco Cobbs did not attend UT’s camp but insisted that no one should read anything into his absence.
“I’m definitely still considering Tennessee,” the 6-1, 200-pound receiver from Tulsa (Okla.) Central High School said.
Cobbs said he expects UT to be one of his top five schools when he cuts down his list. Widely considered one of the top 100 prospects in the nation, Cobbs has 37 scholarship offers and is primarily considering UT, Southern California, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU and Texas Christian.
Cobbs hasn’t been to Knoxville, so getting him on campus is a must for UT’s coaches. Cobbs said he’s trying to secure a summer visit. If not, he’ll likely take an official visit to UT this fall.
“I don’t know when I’ll be able to visit,” Cobbs said. “I’ll definitely try to make some plans to go out there and visit. We’ll just have to see.”
Cobbs said he’s a fan from afar of UT’s coaching staff, especially Lane Kiffin and his history of explosive offenses at USC.
“I want to be able to play in a pro-style offense with some of the spread,” Cobbs said.
Cobbs is being recruited by UT defensive backs coach Willie Mack Garza.
Roster Report II: The trio of defensive backs from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale did not make the trip north for UT’s camp. Cody Riggs, Lamarcus Joyner and Keion Payne were expected to attend but didn’t make the trip because of a scheduling conflict, Riggs said.
Riggs said Georgia and Florida lead for his services but he’s intrigued by Tennessee’s coaching staff and still hears from them “a lot”.
“I heard the coaches are doing some real good things so I want to check it out,” Riggs said. “I don’t know much about the coaching staff so I want to get up there.”
Riggs said he’ll likely take an official visit to Knoxville during the season but hasn’t selected a date yet.
Riggs is the younger brother of former UT tailback Gerald Riggs, Jr.
